Which one is better, Paypal or Xoom?

I'm outsourcing web design to the Philippines for the first time. I thought Paypal was the only option, but then I saw something called Xoom, can anyone fill in pros and cons, which one is more cost effective?

Well Xoom seem to be a money transfer system such as Western Union or MoneyGram. I'm not sure which is most cost effective, but I would choose PayPal as it is reliable & trusted by all.

I would use Paypal. Never heard of Xoom. With Paypal, at least you know if that person you sent the money to was a scammer, his account would have been disabled after a few transactions. Money transfer services like Western Union or MoneyGram are more likely to be used by scammers.

be best to just go with paypal, if you are hiring filipinos its not like there will be big paypal charges if you're paying the $1.50 an hour or whatever

    It doesn't matter.

What matters, when you're selling something, is that PayPal is how so many customers want and expect to pay.

I think people in the online space have come to expect paypal when they are paying for things. Its not only quick and easy but it is also a trustworthy thing to display as well.

Paypal gets my vote all day, as a consumer and as a marketer

    PayPal is most used
if you're a freelancer, your customers most probably use PayPal
and many won't know what you're talking about when you talk about Xoom.

On the contrary: part of the benefit of using PayPal is the fact that people don't need a credit-card to use it (just a bank account), and that by accepting PayPal payments, you're therefore able to sell to some people who don't have one.

    Paypal is the better option.
You could try using paypal alternatives, such as this xoom or others, but you should also think from the other point of view: do the people you will work with even use Xoom? Paypal is a lot more popular and a lot more trustworthy, IMO.

Sometimes we all tend to make this too complicated. Everyone who does anything online, likes Paypal and uses it consistently.

I've used Xoom plenty of times to pay for outsource work and it is reliable and they have the cash ready for the recipient within 1 hour from the time you place the transaction.

But I only use Xoom when the worker has no PayPal, which is pretty common in the Philippines. Also, it depends on how you go about recruiting your workers...

Generally, those who can only be paid by Xoom don't charge as much for their work - they aren't nearly as savvy as the ones who know about PayPal and have their accounts set up with a Union Bank Eon account.

You can find some very talented people in the Philippines who don't have a clue about PayPal. Hard to imagine, but true.
