What to get Dreamweaver or MS Front Page?

Hello Warriors,

I know that there are free programs to create your website,
but since my business is running more like a business now,
I want to buy a software for the long run. The question is
which one?

Dreamweaver or MS Front Page?

Which would you recommend to get? I don't care that much
about which one I know how to use more, since I'm going to
have someone work with it as well which is a pro on both.

Please let me know which would be more valuable to acquire
in the long run.

Thanks,
Peter

Well, if you or your employees have MS Office - FrontPage should already be there.
Many people swear that DW is a more professional solution... I don't know because I don't use wysiwyg editors.

Front Page blows, stay away from it. Go with Dreamweaver, or Notepad. Learn how to code by hand.

    Good luck bro

Why? There's no need to anymore.

Knowing enough of the code is helpful, but coding by hand is tedious when you were not "brought up" on it.

Dreamweaver doesn't put much in the way of unnecessary code, keeps the html fairly clean and your page sizes don't vary much. I did a comparison on this about 5 years ago.

When I work on my pages in DW I use the split screen so I can peek at the code while I work. Like I said - it's helpful to understand html code, but not necessary to learn how to code in Notepad. Takes too long and I am lazy

Are you protecting your on line business? If you have a website, blog, ecommerce store you NEED to back it up regularly. Your webhost will only protect you so much. Check out Quirkel. Protect yourself.

Dreamweaver has it all over Frontpage. I use dreamweaver most everyday...
Another option for you to explore would be xsitepro v2.... or artister if your building wordpress sites.

Dreamweaver for sure. Although the learning curve is medium (few hours), this program becomes your best friend in web developing.

Just remember to be patient in learning all the tools and not get frustrated with it too early.

I think Dream weaver it is!

I was also inclining towards it, but wanted to give an opportunity
    to other softwares.

I am not aware of more softwares, but if you have you recommendations

Don't bother with FrontPage even if you have it already as part of Office. The HTML and CSS engines haven't been updated since 2002 which on the web is the dark age. The code it produces works really well in IE 5, works pretty good in IE 6 and tends to not work well in FF, IE 7-8, Opera or Safari.

Dreamweaver is the industry leader and if you are creating php or classic asp applications to run on your site then I would recommend using it. A good support group for Dreamweaver is the Adobe-Dreamweaver group on Yahoo Groups. For tutorials see the Adobe site and Adobe TV.

If you are using ASP.NET for forms processing or applications then Expression Web is your best choice. Like Dreamweaver it has excellent CSS and HTML tools but has a lower learning curve. Tutorals for it are available at by-expression.com and support is available in the official MS forums.

If you will be creating a typical marketing brochure type site then either will work well for you. The learning curve is steeper with Dreamweaver but that's in part because it is more powerful. My recommendation is to download trials of each (both offer 30+ trials) and see which one you find easier to work with. People who use Photoshop and InDesign tend to prefer Dreamweaver while those who are heavy Office users tend to prefer Expression Web.

Save your money. And spend some money on a descent html/css book. Then progress to other languages like php and java. Dreamweaver is a great tool but to be able to easily create a site without problems coding is needed.

      Bunk.

Not everyone can learn HTML quite so simply. If that were the case, there would be no WYSIWYG editors.

In over 5 years of using DW, I have NEVER produced a site that had problems in the coding.

You may not need Dreamweaver, but learning how to code in notepad isn't necessary either. Do a search for free html editors. There are some out there.
