Do NOT Use GoDaddy - Horrible Experience!

I signed up to GoDaddy a few days ago and used their website builder to build my website. When I tried to save my work, it would never save it. Their website builder just spinned for hours. I logged out and went back in today to work on it. GoDaddy would not let me access my account. It would not recognize my username, it would not recognize my email address and would not recognize my customer number. I called customer support and after an hour conversation, the support person could not help me.

I finally told him to cancel my account because I had become very frustrated at this point. He told me that I could not cancel my account without signing in to my account. I told him repeatedly that their system would not recognize my login info. He then told me to send a copy of my driver's license to prove my identity. I told him that I would never do that because of identity theft.

I hung up and went to GoDaddy company info. I sent an email telling them to cancel my account. I got a notice telling me that my email to GoDaddy was undeliverable! What is going on? How can I cancel my account? Has anyone else experienced this?

Sorry for your frustration. I never used GoDaddy for a reason other than domain registration and actually I have had no issues so far with anything.

They asked something from you to prove your identity and you did not provide that to them. How can you expect them to do your request? Let's say I contacted them and asked to cancel someone else's account because I don't like them, should they cancel it without asking me proof?

I am not defending GoDaddy here but I have also been providing customer support for a long time for my products and services and I know how frustrating customers may get at times but please understand that what they do, they do to protect their all users.

Gotta say that even though every webhost and server has temporary glitches, when it goes on for many hours or over 2 days there are probably only two options:

    1. Everyone knows about it and a lot of people are talking about it because (in this case) no one can work on their site or send emails or anything. This would be the company's fault in one way or the other.

    2. It's a local PC or internet connection problem. In this case it sounds more like something on your end than on their end. Of course I don't know because I don't know all the details but that is my own experience in cases like this.

You trust them with your CC or payment information but not your ID? Of course people have to be careful about identity theft but they have a right to ask these questions - just like McDonald's or any other local store may ask for ID.

That's your experience with them or maybe of some others too
but to be fair with them, I always have good experience with Godaddy. I have been using several of their services for past 4 years and never had any issue with them.

As far as Godaddy asking you for ID, they have right to do so to establish who you are.

I would be interested in seeing a copy of the bounceback email along with the headers. I'd be willing to bet you entered the email address wrong. But certainly feel free to prove me wrong

I hit the reply button on the order confirmation email I received. It was from sales@godaddy.com. It bounced back as undeliverable. I'm calling their main Office in Arizona today.

It would be good to post the full header because there have been phishing scams with fake emails posing as legitimate order confirmation emails.

Most likely it bounced back because contacting their sales department is not where they want you to go for "after sales" and support questions. Once you have placed your order, it's no longer appropriate to contact "sales." There is nothing at all unusual about this.

I realize you are frustrated, that's to be expected. But you will get much further in getting your issues resolved if you will calm down, do exactly what they say, and work your way through the system.

I saw a recent study regarding customer complaints with domain registrars. It was done by a 3rd party, "disinterested" consumer group. As it turned out, something like 80% of the complaints that they reviewed were customer errors in using the system, their credit cards, not following instructions, and consumers not knowing how to use their own computers. To say the least, it was an eye-opener.

My experience with GoDaddy have been perfect

maybe because I only use them for domain registration.

    Everything else is bust.

Handling domain names is their strength.

It is very unpopular to defend Godaddy here so I thanked the ones who gave their good experience.

I have no doubt that there are some problems because of all of the negative press they get here.

I must say that while my experience with them has not been perfect, nothing is perfect.

All and all I like them and use them all the time.

I feel and hear you. I can truly sense the frustration.

I just used Godaddy for domain registration. I have horrible experience with their hosting too.

Also, now I tend not to use the same company for both domain registration and hosting. I prefer a separate hosting provider.

This tells me that Godaddy did actually try to help, and that they simply wanted to make sure that you were the actual customer by asking for a copy of your driver's license. This is an acceptable security measure.

You however refused to cooperate when help was offered. So why complain?

Used it once, because of a promo on .com domains.

Web hosting companies and domain reg. are not known for their AAA customer service, but in comparison to this, Hostgator and Namecheap seems amazing.

Never renewed. Use Namecheap or Hostgator instead or any other company. I even suggest going with a small one since they tend to offer better services as they don't have such a big load. Or go with premium services.

Believe me, saving $5 is not worth the hours of frustration offered by GoDaddy.

I have used GoDaddy for all my needs for the past 10 years and have nothing but great things to say about them. Whenever I have had any issues whatsoever, I call them and they have quickly resolved them 100%... Sorry you did not have the same experience, but....

I have over 500+ domains with them, and never had any bad experiences with them. In fact I love the fact that they offer $1 dollars ones in a while plus there are many other domain deals.

But I can understand that not everyone can have good experience with any product online...

    Just my 2 cents!

I tried their shared hosting many years ago and I was not happy with the server performance. However, I have purchased hundreds of domains from GoDaddy over the past 12 years and have not had a single problem and their service has been top notch.

    Best of luck.

I agree they are a great domain seller. But their hosting is sub par. I guess the old saying is true ... you can be some things to all but not all things to some.

I had been dealing with GoDaddy for domain registrations and dumped them for a number of reasons after 10+ years - I would strongly advise against using their web hosting - that is not their strong suit (to put it nicely.)

I've also had bad experiences with registered domain purchasing with them. What started to become deceptively cheap (max 1k) rose to a 10k bill which I refused to pay and thus never completed the service.

For Hosting I use A2 shared with SSD. Not that cheap but is fast enough to look like a VPS and a great price for that.

      .
You must have been buying an awful lot of domains for a $10,000 bill or buying in another currency rather than US dollars.

Buy domains with any provider like GoDaddy then use Wordpress for your websites. It's not that hard to learn with a few YouTube tutorials. Then hire a CSS specialist to help you edit the site. Easy.

For the record, and to balance out the "GD is great" comments, I've had a couple of very bad experiences with them involving domain names. However, they are always available and usually cheerful to chat with (chuckle... for whatever that's worth). I don't expect to have every day be perfect with any of my registrars.

On your problem of website hosting with them using their site builder, my instincts would lead me to not do that. I just wouldn't put myself there. There are too many other options that are equally good and better.

I'm guessing that you don't have time to learn WordPress. Like DennisRay suggested, I would try WIX. I have had clients who were using it and it's okay. I have someone who also uses Yola with some halfway decent results.
