Vimeo vs. Amazon S3+ Easy Video Player

Previously I have used Amazon S3+ Easy Video Player for my videos on my membership site. However lately I noticed alot of people using Vimeo. Can someone tell me what is the difference between the 2? Good points and bad points of each?

Personally I would recommend using Vimeo Pro.

I use Vimeo Pro on clients websites that I build.

It costs like £150 a year and you have unlimited storage - you're just limited to uploading 20GB of video a week which is A LOT as long as you're not producing cinema hollywood movies.

You don't have to worry about bandwidth or your videos being slow for anyone.

It's really really cost effective IMO and you get a lot of control like:
    - prevent people from downloading your videos
    - password protect your videos
    - increase branding on videos
    - API features
    - allow the video to be only played on certain sites

that last one being vital for membership sites

Or you can get a plus account which is cheaper but you are limited to uploading only 5GB of video a week

I believe that with the Vimeo Plus Account you're restricted from using it for commercial purposes. Only the Pro Account allows for that.

You may also want to take a look at Wistia. They have recently gotten more competitive with their service as well. You can try it for free with 10GB of Storage, 50GB of monthly bandwidth and use it for business purposes.

I really like Wistia. I believe their current starter plan is free for your first 50 videos, which is amazing. Unlimited storage as well with 200 gb monthly bandwidth.

Considering how much damage i could do with those first 50 videos (meaning ROI from the projects I'm working on) I would easily pay $20 a month for their service when the time comes.

What kind of problems have you been having with your current setup? I have used S3 and EVP for years and love it, especially the less than $1 a month bill.

It has all the same features mentioned in previous post.

Once you use Vimeo pro you realise S3 and cloud front is a JOKE compared to Vimeo pro.

S3 gets very, very expensive once you start creating lots of video courses. I have a client that just hit the $400/mth mark for serving Amazon S3 videos.

Wistia is very expensive as well if you're running video courses. It's ideal for front end marketing videos only, imho.

Gotta agree with this assessment. Once you start doing more and more video, Vimeo Pro is just so easy. It buffers a heck of a lot better than S3 (at least where I am at) and provides a ton of tools for branding. I think it streams better than Wistia, it just doesn't have the analytics Wistia has.

Vimeo definitely streams better. Supposedly, Wistia's streaming is supposed to be more advanced than anything out there, but their videos load slow compared to Vimeo. A person can't see the difference if they are using a super fast connection, but for mediocre and slow connections, it's obvious.

Mine is a mediocre connection, and I've abandoned sales pages running an autoplay HD video using Wistia many, many times.
