I'm looking for a dedicated server for a service I'm setting up. It'll be many users, and many connections to the server via javascript. What dedicated server host would you recommend? I'll be benificial if I could run many websites on it. I've been looking at 1and1.com and their Dual-Core M server. Looks great for 60 USD/ month. Since this is a business site running something similar to a hosted Fantasos solution, it should have a great backup solution if the server somehow goes down. ( 24/7 Managed server is importent.) |

Thanks. I should probably mention that I need Linux: php + MySQL. (No Microsoft/ ASP needed.)

doesn;t look bad indeed.... dual core 2 gig and 100mb is not bad. but before you commit you need to run tests to know what kind of processing power you will need. if the server manages a lot of scripts and porcesses it might need more processing power. |

Yes, but I can't test that before it's live. My programmer told me to go for a server with double processor and 2 GB of Ram. The load will also vary with the use of my members/ users. How much of the inbuilt tracking system they will use, how many emails they will send etc. So I really have no clue about processing power yet, and it's hard to test before it actually runs... |

I am using Joesdatacenter.com and I'm happy so far. Their pricing is good. I tried them after seeing positive reviews on webhostingtalk. You can look for more offers on webhostingtalk and check reviews there.

yes you can and should. take the highest guess as far as number of users and task to perform. if you size the server for your average load it might crumble at the first peak. and you want to leave some headroom to grow. not have to interupt the service in 3 month to change server. ask your programmer to do it...if he can't pm me and i will guide you through the setup and testing if you want. |

I use Nexcess.net - great company, awesome service, and uptime that is pretty much 100%. They're flex with their dedicated server plans, so you can negotiate too. Ask for Greg Swaney and tell him Ronnie sent you, he knows me well and he'd give you the plan for your needs. |

ho and for that kind of service i would go with a fault tolerant setup or at least have a degraded mode that you can switch on in case of problems.
