Badges !

Yeah, I can do badges.

One less thing for you to concern yourself over, Neil. I'd just need the proper names as opposed to forum usernames.

John - mm, that domain wouldn't work when this becomes so popular that we need to hire the SECC!

When I used to have a 'proper job' in advertising, my wife used to say that I went to lunch for a living.

Now, years later, it seems I'm turning into a 'lunch consultant'.

I like that.

Looks like Lockerbie on Sat 15th Nov, not sure if I will drive or take the train as the train is only one hour from Glasgow.

We need to get a meeting time sorted once we have confirmed location, I suggest maybe around 1-1.30 pm as we may have some guys driving a few hours.

This website below has some pubs and restaurants listed

Lockerbie Business Directory, local business, local shops, trades, lockerbie commerce

Lockerbie is a 45 minute drive from here, I'd be happy
to do a recce to find/assess a suitable meeting place.

Can I chime in again?

Okay, I will.

If you can find a hotel, it will be better than a restaurant. Not only will you be likely to get a better (and possibly cheaper) meal, but you'll be able to adjourn to the bar area after the meal - thus making networking much easier.

If you do use a restaurant, make sure they know you will be hanging around for hours. Some eateries tend to dislike that!

A hotel in Lockerbie on Saturday 15th November.

John, Lockerbie is about 1 hour from here (55 miles). If you want, I could meet you down there one day soon and we could do a recce. That said, if you'd rather do it on your own, that's fine too.

Cheers,

You're right Kevin, but two people have voted for Gretna, I'm guessing their 2nd choice would be Lockerbie. The vote for Motherwell would more than likely go to Glasgow. That would make it even stevens!

As the organiser and instigator, I'd suggest Neil has the casting vote.

Lockerbie is definitely better for me, and I'm sure John too, since he's in Gretna.

John, I'll need to speak to Mrs AutoResponse Plus tonight, to work out a suitable date. Is next week OK?

Yeah, that's why I chose Glasgow also (and the fact I live here ), because it's easier for people traveling, direct train to Central/Queens Street Station from most places I believe.

I would be willing to travel to Lockerbie, whatever the decision is.

My vote has made it a tie between Glasgow & Lockerbie.

Just a suggestion, but is the ice-rink still going in Lockerbie? I could dig out my curling shoes and we could literally have a great "ice-breaker"

Hi Guys,

Apologies for not getting in touch sooner. I've had some major stuff going on here and that's kept me away from the WF, amongst other things.

Due to a major project I've got going, I'm not going to have time to work on organising the meeting until after the New Year at the earliest.

If anyone else wants to take it on, feel free. I have an email list of those who signed up to be kept informed. I can send it to whoever takes it on, if that's what you want to do.

Cheers for now,

Neil

Neil,

You have a PM. I'd be happy to take over the
organisation. I've found three possible venues
and this one seems to have the best facilities:
The Malt Lounge

OK, the "Malt Lounge" may have been a factor
in my choice!

There will definitely be myself, Heather & Peter
in attendance, all I need to know now.. is who
else will definitely turn up?

Hi guys

Given that this event is open to all, but probably more people in Scotland would want to attend, would it make more sense to site it somewhere central Scotland? Most people can travel easily to Glasgow for example.

Just a thought, may increase take up and therefore knowledge to share!

Bobby

We've been through the venue selection process already. Those that showed interest in a Scotland meet put forward their suggestions via this thread and by quite a democratic process Lockerbie was chosen.

It's called the Scotland Lunch to give it some identity, but as you correctly pointed out, it is by no means restricted to folk that live north of the border.

A lot of people from England have said they'd like to attend.

For those people who are not on the mailing list,
here's the email is sent out yesterday..
Quote:
Hi,

Unfortunately Neil can't spare the time to organise the get together
on Saturday 15th November and so you're just going to have to put
up with me - your local benevolent dictator!

I'm proposing that we meet up at 10am at:
The Malt Lounge

It looks fairly easy to get to, there seems to be plenty of parking
and the "Malt Lounge" will provide us with an opportunity to meet
informally and perhaps enjoy a bar meal and a drink ot two.

No agenda in mind other than getting to know each other, sharing
a few anecdotes, questions and generally chewing the fat.

Maybe bring along your favourite audio recorder, videocam and
camera.. we might want to record the event for posterity.

There may even be time to think about a JV or two. ;-)

So, please let me know if you will definitely be coming to Lockerbie
on Saturday 15th November.

I'd also appreciate a heads up if you won't be coming, then I can
let the Dryfesdale how many to expect.

I look forward to meeting you.. you WILL be there won't you? ;-)

Take care

John

Hoping we can get at least 10 confirmed warriors ?

John, I phoned the hotel for directions ( it's a few miles just outside Lockerbie ) and they open at 11 am with lunches served between 12-2pm.

I won't be there until around 11 a.m but it might be an idea to meet up later than 10am as I don't think the bar is open until 11 am if you want a tea, soft drink, beer etc....

I would have loved to come, but I can't make it this Saturday.

Hope it goes well and I will be sure to make it to the next one!

Cheers,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne

That's a shame.

Anyway, just send your share of the kitty money and we'll make sure it's put to good use

Cheers,

Neil

Hi John - I was wondering how many have confirmed with you?

For those attending who have some time on their hands and have some experience of IM I have an idea that could make the right person a few thousand dollars per month if they do it well. And much, much more if they do it brilliantly.

This isn't some hair-brained scheme - I've had the foundations for this in place for some time - it just needs someone to run with it.

I should say, this probably won't suit a complete newbie because I don't plan on being your teacher. That said, I'm open to being convinced you're the right person.

Anyway, enough mysterious talk - anyone interested can chat to me about it on Saturday.

Cheers,

Neil

Sorry, I've made other plans for Saturday because of the lack of updates.

@John: I didn't get that email somehow, might've went to my junk, which I usually just empty without checking thoroughly.

I'll hopefully be able attend the next meet up.

Cheers,
Iain

Hi John/Neil,

I've got a lot on this Saturday, so can't really spare the travel time to Gretna unfortunately. But I'll do my best to come to the next one.

Have fun!

Guys

Unfortunately one of the windscreen wipers on my car has packed in and it won't be sorted until next week.

As I really don't fancy getting stopped by the boys on blue on the M74, I'm going to have to miss out on Saturday.

Have a good one,

Neil

Good idea John! Or maybe I could just attach something to my nodding dog.

Peter - having spent countless hours on the M74 in a past life, yes, it can be a little damp in places.

Mrs AutoResponse Plus offered to use my car and let me take hers but she's got the kids' dancing/football runs etc to do so that's a worse scenario.

It's ironic that this has happened - working full-time at IM in an office that's 2 minutes from my house makes it very difficult to justify buying myself a new car!

Cheers,

Neil

Hi John

The email from your gmail account ended up in my spam folder, and as I've just caught up on this thread I won't be able to make it - perhaps if you'd twittered about it I may have seen it!

Hope it all goes well, and I'll try to make it up the M6 for your next meeting in the malt bar.

A grand total of four warriors turned up yesterday...

Heather & Peter Bestel, Kevin McNally and myself.

We all got the opportunity to talk about our online
businesses, we shared a few tips and we had an
excellent lunch!

I hope that this isn't the last lunch that you will be having.

Haven't been around for a while but was disappointed to see that I had missed an opportunity to meet up with some warriors based in Scotland. I have tried on a couple of occasions to arrange meetings with people up here but never seems to come to much.

Last year I attended a meeting of Robert Puddy's in East Kilbride where only 3 people turned up. And one of those was from America!

I am based up in Perth but would be very prepared to travel to these lunches just to build some relationships and to learn.
