Default Warriors Scotland Lunch

Hi there

I know there are one or two Warriors in Scotland who regularly post.

Are there others lurking here?

Would there be mileage in getting together - like the London Lunch thing?

Cheers,

Neil

That might be a good idea.

We'd probably pick up some folk in north England too.

Gretna - that would be absolutely fine for me!

I'm sure there are loads of people lurking on here that could benefit from something like this.

How long do want to be a newbie for jem? All the more reason for you to attend, don't you think?

Easier and less embarassing to ask questions on the forum instead of in person, for me anyway.

Jem - there's no shame in being a newbie. I was once embarrassed to ask questions, for fear of looking stupid. Not just in IM but in general. But one day I was in the pub & a friend asked me to play pool - normally i would have said "nah - don't know how to play" (read: didn't want to look stupid whilst the pro's waited for the table).

But I did play and someone even commented "Dude that was an easy shot, shoulda made that" but instead of feeling embarrassed, i just said "yeah i never play, i don't know what i'm doing" and he ended up telling me tons about the game, and being a really nice guy.

I think you'll find with everything nearly everyone's a nice guy, and willing to help you where you're not proficient. I mean - We can't all be perfect at everything right? And the quickest way to learn is off those that already know.

Sorry for the off-topic.

On-topic: If i can afford to get up there i'll surely come along - traveling is the name of the game for me atm.

Actually, my motivation for starting this thread was specifically to help people who are new.

I'd love to spend some time with people who are completely new to this, and want to get their questions answered in an informal environment.

Cheers,

Exactly.

Just checked the trains from grimsby - £71 return. ouch! May drive though if friends fancy visiting Newcastle at the same time.

John suggesting Gretna, now is he saying a warrior lunch or using Gretna for its original purpose

Just kidding John, and he knows it

Hong Kong is too far away to be there, but we had a meet here, there were 4 of us, and it doesn't matter what stage anyone is at, because each has something to contribute.

Jem, you never know, you might make a comment, and think everybody already knows it, and find that you have centre stage, as they all want to know about it.

Have an informal one to start, and that way newbies, and oldies can work together.

Make sure John brings the important person of his business Muffin. If you are not on John's list then you won't know about the brilliant emails Muffin sent out.

There's value to be gained even if there's just three
people who turn up.

In my experience it doesn't matter if you are new to
internet marketing or a veteran.. there's always
something to learn from other people.

With the right people in the room there's even the
possibility of setting up a joint venture or two.

I'm just South of the border in Northumberland. I'm not a Scot, but I'd love to join in if that would be possible?

I made the journey the other day to the London lunch, and I see a lot of mileage in this sort of thing.

If the event only allowed people who live in Scotland (or indeed are Scottish) the numbers would be seriously depleted, methinks.

You'd be very welcome.

My initial reference to Scotland was a geographical rather than a national distinction. Meaning, if we were going to arrange something, then anyone who could travel the distance would be welcome, of course. Even Hong Kong!

Pretty much any date/time suits me.

How about a day in November to give people time to sort things out?

Anyone care to kick off with a couple of dates that suit them in November?

Cheers,

Neil

Both Heather and I would probably come and we wouldn't be free until the last week in October onwards (School half-term before then)

As it is with many of us, it's a bit of a trek to get anywhere. Maybe John suggested Gretna half in jest, but it's a good a place as any. It's more than an hour and a half drive for us, but what isn't?

First week in Nov would be fine. How about Tuesday 4th?

Why don't we leave the place 'open' until we see who else chimes in?

We have an opening bid of Tuesday November 4th from Peter.

Hi All

This sounds like a good idea, I am just back in Scotland after being out the country for 6 months. I would suggest possibly Edinburgh, I live just outside Glasgow and I think there are a few other warriors near Glasgow but Edinburgh would be just about in the middle if we have warriors coming from near the borders.

Not sure about the dates but I would suggest a Saturday as I couldn't make midweek as I need to pick up kids from school. There might be warriors who also have full time jobs and this would avoid having to take a day off.

Saturday 15th November ?

I've signed up Neil.

As Peter says, my Gretna comment was somewhat tongue in cheek,
but as it's on the M74 it might be convenient for anyone travelling
from south of the border.

First week in November is OK with me, it's a good week for fireworks!

Hey guys...I'd be interested if it's 'trainable'. I can only get their via public transport at the moment. However I can get to Aberdeen or Glasgow very easy via direct train line. Obviously I can go from there via taxi, bus or connecting train if need be.

I wouldn't be averse to hiring a car and sharing the costs with anyone who is relatively local and wants to catch a lift.

Could do a pick up en route, or if 2-3 people want to meet somewhere central and I'll drive there it wouldn't be a problem.

My old banger (no, not the Mrs) will struggle with the motorway, so I'll probably be hiring a car anyway.

Kindest regards,
Karl.

Neil,

Put me in the list buddy. I'll send a blank email.

I'm easy with any date between 01/11/08 and 27/11/08. I'm based in Glasgow and if any fellow Glaswegians need a lift just give us a shout :-)

Nowt wrong with Morecambe Karl, I've spent many happy days there, admittedly about 40 years ago. I'm the other side of the bay in Ulverston.

Note I changed the name of the thread again.

If you live on Mars (or Birmingham) and want to come, of course you can.

Cheers,

Neil

A "trainable" location would be good for me as someone else mentioned. Or I could take Baal up on his kind offer ;0). I live near Balloch and don't drive :0(.

Guys, make sure you sign up for the list, send an email to meet [AT] neilmorgan.com

So, any more suggestions on date and location ?

I notice we have a good mix of new guys and experienced guys, are we just meeting up for an informal chat or would you like a few speakers ? If we have speakers then we would likely need a place with internet access etc... but nothing too formal.

Iain Meddicks
mistertortoise ( Ayrshire)
Baal

Peter, are you closer to the borders ?

Everyone else is located Borders ( John T ) , Lake District and slightly further South.

I suppose so. We didn't move here for its accessibility.

Gretna is 85 miles
Glasgow is 100
Edinburgh is 150

We'll drive as we'd be half way through our journey before we got to a train station.

I'd prefer Glasgow or further south.

Peter

I'd suggest we just get together informally to begin
with and then we can decide if it would be a good
idea to make it a regular thing.
