I'm thinking of looking to organise something a bit more regular for people in and around the West Mids - and then perhaps have larger events once in a while, so those travelling from further away would find it worthwhile coming to the main events.

Any ideas or suggestions welcomed - I'm far from an IM guru, more a web developer!

Just a quick follow up to say thank you to all of those who came along today. It was great to put faces to the names, and we certainly had a lot of ideas and stories about IM and the web to share.

The general consensus seems to be for a weekday meet, so I'll put something up here shortly (perhaps a poll) to see what suits best for our second meetup.

Guys,

I've written what is probably the worst poll in history, simply asking which day is best for a meetup. I appreciate weekly and work differences, as well as location, would all have an effect on this - but the polls are quite limited in the options I can ask.

You can select multiple days - so go for the ones that best suit you.

It's just really a guide to see which day would be most popular - my ultimate aim is to get meetups running regularly, on different days in different places, so we can maximise turnout and get a great group of people together.

I'm happy to organise another one, but to be honest unless people actually want to do this, I see little mileage in organising events that people can't get to.

IM isn't my primary field - but with the large amount of interest from people in having a Midlands based meetup, I think we're missing a valuable opportunity here.

My area is more web design / development / build and Wordpress - but I think this group would benefit from having one or two people help organise it, perhaps get in some speakers and topics going to do with IM, offline, web development etc.

Anyone?

Guys, I've written what is probably the worst poll in history, simply asking which day is best for a meetup. I appreciate weekly and work differences, as well as location, would all have an effect on this - but the polls are quite limited in the options I can ask. You can select multiple days - so go for the ones that best suit you. It's just really a guide to see which day would be most popular - my ultimate aim is to get meetups running regularly, on different days in different places, so we can maximise turnout and get a great group of people together. I'm happy to organise another one, but to be honest unless people actually want to do this, I see little mileage in organising events that people can't get to. IM isn't my primary field - but with the large amount of interest from people in having a Midlands based meetup, I think we're missing a valuable opportunity here. My area is more web design / development / build and Wordpress - but I think this group would benefit from having one or two people help organise it, perhaps get in some speakers and topics going to do with IM, offline, web development etc. Anyone?
