Mastermind Group: St. Louis, Missouri & Metro-East Illinois Mastermind Group

There has been interest in forming a St. Louis based Master Mind Group as discussed in the Central Missouri thread.

Since no one has stepped up for organizing this meeting, I will.

I'll get the ball rolling and propose a few things:

1. Location should be in St. Louis in a decent location
2. Should be on a weekend
3. Time of day around noon-ish to allow for travel
4. Target date? I propose monthly with the first meeting in March 2009

Basic Agenda

1. Meet fellow Warriors - introductions
2. Business Meeting
3. Adjourn
4. Post meeting BS session

For the business meeting portion, we could:

1. Discuss future meetings (when, where, agenda, etc...)
2. Have a subject matter expert speak on a topic (or two, or more...)
3. Have round-table discussions on various topics (pick the topic that interests you)
4. Closing remarks

Your thoughts and suggestions are desired and valued. So let the comments begin...

I'll MC/act as host for the meeting and also host a round table discussion on CPA.

Besides your input/comments, I could use some help finding a free meeting room in St. Louis at a decent location.

Again a location for a regular monthly meeting if possible.

Besides finding a location. We'll also need some hosts for various roundtable discussions, main topic presenters, etc...

I'll set up an autoresponder to collect names and notify people. More info on how to opt-in once I set it up.

Hmmm I think I may be the only other one.

I'm new to the city and the only places I know well are coffee shops and a couple of bars. But can talk to one of them about setting aside a table, if we get enough people.

I know the city pretty well and can suggest a few places suitable for a small group.

If we can get 5-6 people, then I would say it is worth pursuing the MMG.

Hopefully more will indicate their interest by replying to this thread.

I'd be interested, if it weren't for the whole (alcohol involved) part of the "BS" session. Just mentioning that makes it seem like partaking is an obligation for the mastermind session. And I really wouldn't feel comfortable in that environment.

Please note that the BS session is "Post" meeting (after the regular meeting adjourned).

Do I need to state that attending something like that is optional?

Do I need to state that drinking an alcoholic beverage is optional?

Do I need to point out that it is a suggested agenda?

You create the affect that this is EXPECTED. Sure, I know that nobody can FORCE me to drink, but I also don't want people thinking, "Oh, that guy is ditching us by walking out on 'social time.' What a jerk!" Nor do I want people feeling guilty for choosing to do what I choose not to. I have found that when I opt-out of something, a lot of people immediately turn my simply saying, "No thanks" into persecution. Chalk that up to insecurity on their part -- or whatever it may be... the bottom line is that I don't want people thinking negatively about me or themselves on account of my own convictions.

If it's 'optional' -- as you say, and it's part of the "post" festivities and not the meeting itself, why even bother mentioning it?

All I'm saying is that your intended message and your perceived message can be very different from the reader's standpoint.

Simply stating, "4. Post meeting BS session" would have seemed sufficient to me if the (alcohol involved) part wasn't supposed to be the attention getter.

Hey Guys,

I'm in. I live west of STL off of 40 in O'Fallon, MO. There shouldn't be a problem finding a meeting place - we have our HOA meetings at the Public Library, we get a room to ourselves, etc. All is well.

Worst cse scenario I can ask a buddy of mine who manages Hotels to see if we can get a "Board Room". He said that the Board Room in the the property that I am thinking of is rarely used so I might be able to persuade him to give it to us for free or tiny fee. It's in the Chesterfield Valley.

I am interested. I live near Carbondale, IL and have a daughter that lives in STL. I can combine a meeting and a visit, and she is heavily involved in a large virtual marketing group in STL and she may be interested in attending as well.

Ahhh... We are making some progress getting a group together in the Metro STL area. I was driving Friday and noticed a small strip mall off the highway with a unit that said Internet Marketing & Web Design. I'm going to head over there and see who they are and what they are up to.

I'm in town this week, out of town next week, in town the following week (maybe), and then out of town the next following week.

I'm keeping track of STL warriors and I'll be looking for a good-ish date and location to meet.

Hey Guys,

Just letting you know that I am still planning a STL get together.

I had hoped to have one in July but my soon to be born daughter has been keeping busy the last few weeks.

I am in the Hospital with my wife to deliver as I type this. So now I am shooting for August. I've also bee scoping out good meeting locations. I have access to a couple of board rooms in West St. Louis County but I am looking closer into the City to make it as convienent as possible for those who have to travel a bit to meet.

The STL County Library in Chesterfield, MO looks great. We just have to meet as a non-profit corproation to get the space so if someone has one - let me know.

Any other suggestions on meeting locations- feel free to post them on this board.

Oh boy, aren't I happy to see some neighbors here. I had posted a thread here a couple of months ago, looking for any STL and surroundings people, but got no response, so I though I was the oly one here.
Any way, I dont have much experince in IM as I just got started and am in my learning days, but I would love to join the group and be able to meet some peole and hopfully learn from experinced guys.
