How to save a bunch hosting a Meetup group

Just a little trick that can get your cost down to about $6/month:

Begin filling in the form for creating a new meetup.com group

Abort the process before making the payment.

You should receive an email from them the next day, offering a 50% discount for your 1st payment, which can be for up to a year.

An account entitles you to manage 3 separate Meetup groups.

I was wondering why there were so many "spammy-looking" meetup groups.
Many with no scheduled meetups, and none ever held. I guess they are just looking for exposure? If so, they should try to look more legit.
I guess "any publicity is good publicity" ...

Just to be clear - I'm not dissing the OP here or his info, just commenting on what I saw on meetup.com when I looked there last week.

Actually - forgot to say: Thanks for the info.
