Blog commenting, pagerank, and ranking

I just finished creating a couple of niche sites and wanted to raise my pagerank up from a 0 to a 2. From what I understand getting 3 links with a PR3 will get you a PR2. Google then takes the sites hihighest PR sites and puts them on the first page.

Lets say I find 3 dofollow blogs with a PR3 and leave my anchor text. And nothing on the first page of google with my keywords has a PR2 will my site with just 3 links be on the first page. Or will google see this as suspicious and slap my site.

    Dean,

First, Pagerank doesn't equal higher rankings necessarily. If you do some searching for terms you will notice some sites with PR1 or 2 outrank sites with PR4 and 5, etc. There are other important factors going into rankings. A site with a high PR could outrank a lower PR site if it gets its act together and does a better job with onpage SEO and backlinking that keyword, but many times they aren't after certain keywords or don't know the difference.

Second, just because you get 3 PR3 links doesn't mean you will become a PR2 just from that. Many factors go into passing Pagerank including how many other links are on that particular page.

    My Advice:

Don't worry so much about the PR of your site. Analyze how many links the other sites above you have and what anchor text they are using with those links. A free Firefox plugin like SEO Quake or SEO for Firefox will help you find that information. Your goal is to get more backlinks then those sites and/or links with higher PR then those sites and play the waiting game.

If a site like Wikipedia is outranking you your going to have trouble because a site like that has automatic authority with Google. The basically get a free pass based on other rankings. So, you could even get more backlinks with that anchor text then a site like Wikipedia and still sit below them. In time, you may outrank them as your site builds its own authority. Just don't confuse PR with autmatic higher rankings and you should be fine.

1st: I have no idea why you are worried about raising your page rank, it does not mean as much as you think. Yes many so called seo experts will disagree with this but that is their opinion. What you should be focusing on is building traffic to the site with backlinks, blog comments, bookmarking, ppc, article marketing, and etc ..

Also remember it is called "Page Rank" and not site rank, this means someone's main index page could be a PR 5 while the inner pages could be a PR 0.

2nd: Google does NOT always show the site with the highest PR first, anyone that tells you different is wrong. I can post a article on my blog or on my site and get it listed higher than EZA and EZA is like a PR 6 or something.

3rd: "Do-Follow" does not mean as much as you think either... Having links on do follow and no follow are just as effective. You should not focus your time only on do follow sites because if you do you are losing out big time. It is fully possible for a PR 6 to have very little traffic while a PR 0 can get 1,000+ uniques a day. You need to remember this is not only about getting a backlink to increase ranking but also to help generate traffic directly from the site your link is posted on.

4th: This google slap as some call it is nothing more than a myth.. Yeah google can de-index your listings but that is normally only done when you are caught trying to game the system. Getting 300 or 400 backlinks in one day will not get your sites de-indexed, it will actually get your ranking increased.
