Choosing the right domain advice

Hi,

I have a number of websites in different parts of the world that cater to a specific niche, they are all directories that aim to provide local info on people who can help english speakers with the problem they have and usually don't have the resource in English to help them out.

The thing is that I now want to create a main website, kind of like a hub for them all, but the name I would like for it is already in use, as well as many variations (.net, .info) and besides the site could grow quite a bit so a good domain name is important.

This said there are new domain extensions available, and a .global would fit well. But my doubt is if I should better look for a .com domain that, while not as similar as the name of the websites, at least is a .com, or should I buy the .global version of my ideal domain?

Thanks for your input!

I think a .com is easier to remember. In fact I have never in my life entered a weird domain like .global of course if the website is worth it I might do it, but will I remember the extension to return? Look at the site craigslist, what the heck is a craigs? You might know, but I sure don't. Just pick something rememberable, and close to what you want. If you plan on doing SEO for it, have a blog, and maybe even a forum opened.

    Get the .com

This is an easy one, Kokiwebs. I do domaining each day, 6 days a week, and have done for many years. Not that I'm always buying and selling, but I'm always involved, working. That being said, I strongly advise getting the .com. Strong SEO, resale, and perceived value, among many other factors.

Thanks everyone for the quick response and the tools Steve! I see that the general consensus is the same one I thought would be, so I have to get creative with a .com. Much appreciated!

Another good domain name tool is Bust a Name. Type in different keyword variations and it will give you a list of possible names to choose from.
