Is it a copyright violation to set up a website to sale an affiliate product like a book

Hello, sorry of this is the wrong section, the question is general.

Is it a bad idea to set up a website for a book (or product) on Amazon that has no web site to use to promote affiliate links to that book?

I am sure this has been done, but is it legal, or will it get you sued / in trouble. I have always thought rules were made to be broken, but what do you guys think?

It depends on how you promote the book on your website. If you set up a site that uses the name of the book in the URL and/or are acting like you're an official representative of that book, then you might find yourself in trouble.

On the other hand, if you set up a review-type site that promotes the book, you'll probably be OK. After all, who doesn't like free publicity?

Ask a qualified professional if you have legal queries. No offence intended, but the vast majority of people on here won't be qualified to advise you properly.

I'm no lawyer, but I think it's only a bad idea if you fail to comply with Amazon's terms of service, and/or if you breach anyone's copyright in your use of text and/or pictures from Amazon's sales page for the product - or anyone else's.

If you do any of those things, then it's definitely a very bad idea, on multiple levels, for multiple reasons, and with multiple adverse outcomes!
