Your Recommendation for a Reliable Hosting Company?

I've been expanding into building some Wordpress and Bootstrap sites for new clients and it occurred to me I should be steering my customers to hosting that I am an affiliate for...

I've always been with Hostgator and have tried Arvixxe and BlueHost reseller hosting with mixed results, but was hoping I could get some ideas and recommendations from you guys that have had more experience than me...

Thanks in advance for your help...

Steve

    Steve,

Check out a dedicated server at Verio. Been with them for almost 17 years, and they've been consistently reliable and professional. If you get a managed dedicated server, they handle the tech. Best support I've seen in any hosting company I've used, by far. You can charge your customers whatever is appropriate, and do most of the stuff yourself.

They're not the cheapest, but the support is worth every penny when you need it.

If there are other companies out there that are as good, I'd love to know about them.

Note: Not an affiliate, and I have no connection with them other than paying for their service.

If you're building sites for clients, why not host the sites yourself and charge for it? Get a reseller account if they're going to be doing their own updates and maintenance.

I stayed true to HostGator for way too long. They slid downhill rapidly after they were bought up by the Endurance International Group.

After much research, I switched to BigScoots and I'm extremely happy with them. Their customer service is responsive, fast and extremely knowledgeable and my WP sites are running faster than they ever were with HostGator.

When I eventually switched, I anticipated no end of hassle and downtime, but that wasn't the case. BigScoots took care of everything, all the sites, add-on domains, email addresses, etc.

And best of all, visitors to my sites have actually been contacting me to complement me on their fast loading and general speed.

BTW, I did most of my research through Web Hosting Talk, an authority forum where all aspects of web hosting are discussed.

If nothing else, just steer clear of any hosting companies in the Endurance International Group.

Ditto. We had two servers with them. EIG hosed us big time.

This bears repeating. I have posted the same advice here multiple times.

Your not the only one. Course I've been extra stupid to stay on this long. Submitted a support ticket yesterday afternoon, NO response as I type this. Like 36 hours. Jumped on the online chat, after 30 minutes waiting, guy says he see's the problem (same problem I've had many times before, that should h ave been fixed long time ago), and he would have to submit a ticket to get it investigated. Then chat just ends. Talk about poor customer support.

So I can say as well, who NOT to use. argh is all I can say right now. So ticked.

I have about 80 Wordpress client sites on Hostgator. Right about now, BigScoots sure is looking tempting.

    Thanks Guys,

I appreciate the advice...the deal with EIG is one reason I was trying to get away from Hostgator. I'll have a look at your suggestions and hope to see several more.

John, I already offer reseller hosting with cPanel and have a couple of guys signed up. I was mostly looking for alternatives because one of my clients wanted a "more familiar name".

This is code for, he saw a GoDaddy commercial and wants you to use them without understanding why. Your job is to educate him about hosting which is, it is a commodity business and you have two choices, spend money on hardware, or spend money on marketing, usually not both. GoDaddy has bought super bowl ads, that should tell you something. EIG pays out up to $100 per sign up, that should tell you something. Essentially, the best hosting providers, no one ever hears about. That is what they need to understand.

Hostgator has been good to me they even upgrade their servers every so often doubling your CPU power etc. it's also good price. I have experienced some downtime through 5 years but not so often and most caused by myself.

You cannot go wrong with the biggest ones. It's those no name ones that you never know what you are going to get.

Depends the kind of application that you are running if you are running an small blog etc you can use 1and1. They have very good affordable plans. If you are planning to grow i recommend you to go with Amazon AWS. But you need to be ready for their clonkines. It works like a charm you can scale out an scale in. Very well cloud done. It is not cheap but you can integrate with their other products.

I've never really had problems with Hostgator. I've been using them since 2011.

When I first started online, they were very popular and that is what convinced me to use them. So, I would say they are somewhat a big name amongst the Hosting services online.

    Just my 2cents!

    Cheers!
