Struggling to Make Money? How I Use WF...

Are you wondering how to make money? WF is the ticket.

I'm no guru. I don't have all the answers. But I can tell you something: WF makes me money. If you're new to WF, perhaps this will help you make money, too.

The Briefest of Brief Overviews

I began my internet marketing career 2 decades ago. And I actually fell into it by chance; it wasn't something I sought out. I was at university and making a little on the side by working at a hotel. In my spare time, I used to geek-out on making websites and back in those days, before all manner of push-button website creation, knowing how to put a HTML website together was a rarity. The owners of the hotel found out about my hobby (I forget how exactly; maybe I mentioned it) and offered me quite a hefty sum (for me back them) to do one for them. Pleased with the finished result, they showed off by telling friends, who also owned hotels. Before I knew it, my phone began ringing. Not too long after that I found the wonderful world of IM, and the rest is history. I no longer design websites for a living; I do hundreds of other things, but even after all this time, I'm still constantly in EDUCATION MODE. You have to be. As Ferris Bueller said: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." He was, of course, not talking about IM; but the same philosophy applies. You have to keep your eye on the ball and always keep current. Which is why I say WF is the ticket.

Here's how I Use WF to Earn Money

There are few places on the planet with so many experienced people in the one place. Think about it. Where else in life can you get FREE ADVICE from so many experts? It boggles the mind really. My Mother - currently very unwell - pays thousands a year to see specialists. If our car needs fixing, how much does that cost? If you want your children to go to private school, better be prepared to put aside $15,000 to $20,000 a year. Education is expensive. Help is expensive. But not on WF. Here, the experts generously give their time and their knowledge for FREE. I mean, Jeebus . . . pretty cool, right?

So here's how I use WF to make money...

Daily Reading

Did you post on WF today? Chances are I read it. I'm a post junkie. I rarely have the time to post here, but I do speed read a lot. If you work in the film industry (as I actually do as a side-line) you'll read Variety to stay current. Work in IM? WF!

Asking For Help

Sometimes people are worried to ask for advice. Especially those of us who are meant to have all the answers. If you sell MMO products, a lot of the time (and I've heard this from sources in chat and at conventions) you worry about asking questions here, you worry that people will see it as weakness. Well, to heck with that. Anyone who claims to know it all is being dishonest. And if you sell IM products, you'll always do better by being honest. So, newbie or veteran, ask for help.

When I need help with something, I'll first head straight to WF search. Most of my questions have been asked before. I'll open up notepad and begin pasting down all of the juicy bits of info. I'll also make a note of the usernames who appear to be experts in this field (I like to do this so I can go look at their other posts and perhaps get answers to questions I didn't even know enough to ask about).

When Search fails me, I'll post. I put thought into my post. You're not going to see me throw up a 1 sentence question full of poor grammar. The experts here deserve respect (after all, they're giving me free advice), so I do my best to show it by first asking a question that has no existing answer, and then formulating a thoughtful question, and putting it all together in a nice, respectful manner.

Friendship

Make friends. You should never use a friend, of course, but if you're willing to give as much as you receive then it's all good, as they say. So my last parting piece of advice is to build some good relationships here. Not necessarily with experts but with anyone. As you learn, so will they, and as you both learn, you'll both help one another.

That's All, Folks!

If you're new to IM, if you're new to WF, consider using my approach. I don't profess it to be the best method, but it works well for me.

Regards,

GRM

I always thought everybody came here to either spam their affiliate links all over the place, or to steal money from unsuspecting newbies. But, I do now see that there are some benefits to be had here as well.

I agree with reading up on expert advice here on WF. The only person who has posted advice (which wasn't even directly addressed to me) which I PROFITED from was John McCabe.

You just have to filter the group think and bad advice (stuff that only worked 10 years ago) and get to the good stuff. There's a lot of that 'me too' advice here (often 'backed up' with self-references to old posts and other 'me too' posters) Hint: bad advice is always bad regardless of how many people believe it. You can't wish bad advice into becoming good advice.

A great tip I can add is that you should CONSTANTLY cross reference and substantiate the advice you get from here with AUTHORITY sources like inbound and ad age. The more DATA to back up a piece of advice, the better.

Also, don't take advice and expect it to work for you as is. YOu have to TWEAK IT and customize it based on your needs to make it truly pay off.

I agree, and it's not just for those new to IM. This fits in for everyone who is out there. Although a lot of posts aren't that helpful, it's posts like these that pump me up. Plus, there's a lot of content out here to learn and to get focused on. Also, being able to make friends is something I can testify to.

Imagine this: with so many people working well into their years of IM or digital marketing where every hour or a piece of advice has a consultation tag on it, they come out there spending time for nothing.

All of that for the benefit of community. For making a difference.
