Starting again for the first time

INTERNET MARKETING

Hi All,

I've mentally said I'm going to do this IM thing over and over again through the years. Purchased a cheap ebook here and there, and said I would buy my first domain and go for it. Well, its never happend and I'm at a point in my life with a couple of kids and a wife and stupid debt that I want to get rid of and get us into a house. I'm an IT guy with a good job and a couple of hours of downtime easy each day. I'm computer smart so I don't think it should be difficult. I know I'm not going to be a millionaire in week or whatever. I think my problem is I get hyped up to do this, start researching, and then get overwhelmed and stop. So, basically consider this my introduction to group, if not for anything else for accountability. In life I totally believe in saying something to someone and going through with it. Having a second income of 1k a month would be life changing right now. I know there are those that have made much more. I just want to be the main provider for my family without having to have my wife work seasonal stuff and whatnot.

So yeah, thats a long bit of rambling, but I'm here... and hopefully I'll be around for a while putting in work and getting my hands dirty.

  Yeah you can be super smart but unless you are savvy with your words and marketing techniques don't expect much $$.

  So like Alexa said. You have all the right skills to become successful. The obvious problem to me is channelling that initial enthusiasm into action and then results. The problem of being overwhelmed is a story we have heard many times on here but to overcome this is REALLY SIMPLE!!
  It's all about training yourself to
  
  focus on one thing.....
  
  Master it.....
  
  Put what you learnt into action...
  
  Now to do this I found that setting up a daily action plan in advance helped me to focus. I would make sure that I would dedicate regular breaks into each day. This I found to be very effective.
  
  Once I nailed down my focus, I then moved onto my motivation. Know each person is different and what motivates me might not motivate you....
  What I found that got me motivated was to create Killer Moti Board. This is basically where I would list all the things I want my IM career to change in my life. This could be as simple as being your own boss or spending more time with your family. I would also include a checklist of all the things I would like to spend my earnings on i.e. luxuries. Once the board was completed I would make sure I would place somewhere when I can see each day.
  Sound simple?? Truth.... IT IS!!!
  
  I make a decent amount each month and its definitely made that impact on mine and my family life. You can do the same!!! You have a big advantage over many newbies and now it's time to make things happen...

Hi Tone, those four (quite unusual!) statements in your post above must surely speak highly of your chances: you're realistic, you have skills, you have achievable targets and you'e willing work and to get your hands dirty. You have four big advantages, there!

I guess I should clarify... By it shouldn't be too difficult... I would say it shouldn't be too difficult getting started in say - picking a niche, getting a wordpress blog setup on my own domain...

Now... picking a profitable niche, writing content, growing an email list... Thats where I will be putting in the work as a rookie and learning as I do this daily.

Just keep in mind that building something from nothing takes time, and you just need to keep going on even if you don't see results in the beginning. If you can overcome that and you start seeing resuts eventually, the hard part is done.

As you mention a $1000 extra online is a very realistic goal. If you put in 1-2 hours a day then there's no way you can't achieve that in due time.

I was like you too. But you got to reach for realistic goals. Affiliate Marketing can take some time to accomplish. Don't give up and keep at it. You will always learn new things that just may help you reach your goal more faster. Warrior forum is full of information. Also, I may suggest that you check out the affilorama free affiliate class. It should get you through the basics. Google them.

A Book can't give you money. I don't say "don't buy books". Whatever it is, it explains a method and it works. I'm not stupid, I repeat, it works.

But, book doesn't say you the entire truth and due to the rapid changing nature of IM, out dated information is very common.

However, you've a method......

First, Implement the exact method what it explains in the Book.

Success?
Repeat it, dedicate much effort on it and build a long term business around it.

Failure?
1. Follow people who're doing the same thing.
2. Search internet and follow related information.
3. Discuss in Forums.

Don't give up, add/remove/change steps and test it till it finds the REAL method. I'm talking with honest mind and experience, you have over 99.99% of chance to find it BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

Just go through the wealth of info available in this WF goldmine...
focus on one thing which you love to do.. and start providing the service to people who need it and you are on your way to your goal..

I would say it shouldn't be too difficult getting started in say - picking a niche, getting a wordpress blog setup on my own domain..

The first thing you want to do, (this is where many newbies screw up) is learn the basics. In Internet marketing the "basics" is a sales funnel. It's the core of nearly all online businesses.

Once you have the setup down, then you can decide on other options like niche and traffic generation. Setting up sales funnels with WordPress and all the available plugins is very easy.

Once you start just dont stop. Even if it takes you 10 years to finally make $5,000 a month... would it not be worth it? You wouldn't have to work a job, or experience much stress. Wake up whenever you want and etc. Exclude the hype you hear and just have tunnel vision. Avoid advertisements that get you hyped up thinking that you will make $2012.89/month in just 4 days. And make sure you build up an email list to sell to.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I think the biggest part that overwhelms me is picking the niche. I've heard several schools of thought - 1) Pick something you love 2) Pick something that's Highly Competitive

I'm going to dig through all the stuff here in the forums, but if anyone has any great niche search links they would like to throw my way I'd appreciate it. I think once I get over the initial choosing of what I'm going to be selling/promoting it will be more fun.

For sure picking a niche will help you out! I know that just running around blind here in the IM community can drive you crazy. But once you pick a direction to go, things get much easier. So pick away and welcome back!

It is good to invest in your business, but remember your are a Product Creator first not a Buyer so don't go around buying all the WSOs, JVZOOs and Clickbank products.
Stick to one program and make it work.
If you feel you need a push, Pay money for a great mentor, the great ones will help you cut though the chase and direct you in the right direction.
