I was looking to outsource to someone to design and build a website. I want the website to look a certain way. Who or what do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Check the Warrior's For Hire Section or check the classified ads for custom website designers. They tend to be a little costly but definitely worth the price.

"Best for the money" is hard to answer. A lot depends on your budget and what you actually need done:
      • On one end of the scale, I've bought nice designs from places like Themeforest for $20, but these obviously weren't finished products.
      • If you've got a little bit more money (starting at around $600), I've had good experiences with 99Designs, but here you generally don't get code, just the PSD design. That said, there are some pretty talented designers there and getting a separate project (someplace other than 99Designs) to do your PSD slicing and conversion to whatever platform (if any) you're using shouldn't be too difficult.
      • You can also try sites like Freelancer, oDesk, Elance though in my opinion the quality that you see places like that is a bit iffy. The best talent is working for real design firms, not trying to scrounge up peanuts on Freelancer.
      • If you do want to go the freelancer route, your best bet might be to ask any friends you might have in the design community if they know anyone of quality who is working for side work. The process is likely to be slower, since they'll have a day job, but you'll be able to reach better talent (i.e., the ones who don't have trouble getting good-paying jobs for real companies), and since it's a side job and not their main income source, they may be willing to cut you a break if they find your project interesting (assuming your project is interesting).
      • If you've got $3,000 or more you can start talking to design firms. I've had sites designed from about $5,000, but if you just need a page or two, you can definitely get it done cheaper. At this price, these are definitely lower-end firms, but some can still be quite good. Obviously, if you have more money, you can talk to better (or at least more established) firms. In my previous life I was on projects where we were getting bids of up to $250,000 for a site, so the sky's really the limit here. But if you want the best talent with the lowest risk (though not necessarily the lowest cost), I think putting together a brief and having firms (from whatever price range you can afford) bid is your best bet.

You should also check this section Wanted - Members Looking To Hire You
You'll find several folks there to design your site.

    Good luck.
