Potentially good dropshipping idea..need help to implement it

Hi everyone,

I've found a very good and reliable website to buy cheap items from and I am very interested in reselling them.

The problem I am having is that this website releases new products every day with very limited stock so things sell out very fast.

Would there be any way to create a system that could fetch the product data from this website, list it on ebay/amazon/myownwebsite and keep stock levels updated in real time/1min intervals.

Also I would need to be able to instantly order from the supplier if someone was to place an order with me and fetch all of their delivery info from the website they have purchased it from.

I am concerned that this idea could have many complications and might be very hard or maybe even impossible to implement but the profit margins could be extremely large!

Any advice would be welcome. Also where would be the best place to find someone to build a system like this for me as I have no knowledge of things like this...potentially expensive to build too?

Thanks in advance

Seems like a relatively simple data mining operation, presuming all of that data is reliably posted in a consistent manner on their site.

I would go to one of the freelancing sites with this.

    Good luck.

I'm positive you can have someone code this on freelancer or guru for less than $1000 bucks

Sounds good. The only issue I can think of at the moment is that the website that I purchase the products from doesn't tell you how many are left in stock on the product page. In your shopping cart you can update it with a number and it will give you an error if they don't have that many left...

Could a possible workaround be running a set of queries on the shopping cart to update the quantity until the error message dissapears?...

yes there could be a workaround for this however I know after a certain amount of queries from the same up some shopping carts put measures in place to see if the visitor is a bot or a computer as a counter against fraud...so I would talk to your provider. And maybe they can give you an API key that will update in your interface in real time.

This is not a very advanced task. They could either use the API to access that information or if the website doesn't have an API they could do scrapping and there are actually APIs for scrapping which should really be the second choice since it is not as reliable as the APIs.

However both APIs and site structure change overtime so you would need to have a good relationship with the developer in case you decide to update it which most probably will happen.

The reason I am saying have a good relationship with the developer is because passing existing code to a different developer would more often than not cost you more especially if the code is messy since then the developer would almost always have to start ground up or twist his brains understanding the spaghetti code.

Just somethings to watch out as you go into it!

My suggestion would be to talk directly with the owners of the website. Its probably a good idea to see what they are doing first before you start that.

You are going to need someone to code all that for you as well.

Some very useful information, thank you everyone. I have now contacted the website regarding an API and I will see what they say.

In the meantime, what are my requirements in terms of talking to a developer? I'd like to know what i'm talking about a little bit rather than just saying "I need you to make this".

    Thanks very much

I wouldn't worry too much about being technical. That is the developer's job.

Instead, come up with a detailed description of what you need in plain English.

The more descriptive and thorough you are up front, the less expensive and painful the process will be later.
