Default How To Protect Your Download Pages?

Hey all,

How do you go about protecting your download pages after a customer pays with paypal?

Once a customer purchases your ebook or software, they get redirected to your download page www.mydomain.com/downloads or what ever.

What's stopping the customer linking the URL to a friend, or uploading it to a forum?

How do you make it so only AFTER they have purchased they can view this page? And no other time.

Thanks

This little handy tip will prevent your download page being indexed in the search engines and stopping anybody who searches for your product being able to download it for free.

Enter the following into the HTML of your download page somewhere between the two head tags at the top.

<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">

Not too sure how you can prevent your download link being bandied about via email etc. From my experience about 5% of people who access the download page for my products haven't actually purchased the product. I can check how many have accessed my download page on the 'awstats' for each domain on my hostgator account, then cross reference this with the amount of sales I have received via clickbank and paypal.

I never worried too much about this in the past but thinking about it, imagine if you owned a shop and 5% of your stock was unaccounted for when you done your weekly or monthly stock-check. Would you be happy? Probably not. But I guess it's easier for potential download-page pests to pass on links to friends and colleagues etc than to actually physically steal something from a shop, plus the chances of them being brought to justice are also a lot slimmer unless someone can design some Virtual CCTV software for Download pages!

I use Download Guard. Costs a bit of money but you can hook up unlimited amount of products to it and I have a lot hooked up to mine. It's not worth being cheap when it comes to protecting your products.

The links expire and I set mine for 1 hour and 1 attempt. If they mess that up, they will have to email me for another link, which I give them just enough time to download that before I delete it.

This is DLGuard right?
Do you have to manually set the link up for each and every customer or is it automatic?

You setup your product in Dlguard and it will automatically create a temporary unique download link for each customer.

Yeah ... it's DLGuard. The links are automatically set up. This is one of the best purchases I've made for doing business online. Even hackers say it's very difficult to steal products with DLGuard.

The 7dollarsecrets script offers some protection as well. Download directory/file is hidden and download links have expiration time. Though I don't know how it's security measures up to products such as DG. Just a thought.

Yeah I also use DL Guard. Best app ever. Bought it and never looked back. I actually create more products with it because I don't see it as so much work anymore.

When you find these file sharing sites if there is anything they feel is worth sharing they find it. Doesn't really matter what type of download protection you have.

Another option is to use Amember. If you have it for another site you can set a time limited membership for the buyer to access and download their product.

For WordPress the solution is simple - install "WP w-Commerce". It's free and has a great downloadable commerce module.

You set up a product and upload the file to be sold. It is encrypted and saved to the domain. Even if someone get's the location and 32 hexadecimal character file name it is worthless - it's encrypted.

When someone buys the download the buyers gets a link which is good for 1-9999 downloads. The plug-in decrypts the file for each download and you control how many downloads are allowed for each unique link that the buyer gets via eMail.

Foolproof and free.
