Targeting Younger Generations - Mobile

I'm from one of the newer generation myself, I have lots of friends from the ages 16-24 on Facebook and I think this is a good audience for promoting iPhone/iPod offers.

For example: right now I posted a link to my bit.ly that leads to an offer on CB that offers 10 tweaked default apps to enhance the user experience. I think lots of people my age would like this, considering these are the same default apps they already use except way more advanced. Lots of people buy things for their phone without thinking about it, including apps!

So what do you guys think about this? I'm not gonna go all internet marketer on my friends and create a super good ad because that looks like suspicious/spam, so I decided to go with something like "10 Unheard of Apps we already use but way more advanced and customize-able, this is sick, check it out!"
Not actually what I posted, but that's what I'd plan to post in the future, well at least something similar. What I posted on my FB was: "So much more advanced than the default iPhone apps tho" with my bit.ly URL. Anyways, do you guys think this could work? Or should I target problem-niches?

    Kelvin,

As is always the case with Internet marketing - test and track your results. It's the only way to truly find if something works or not. Start on a very small scale (paid advertising will give you the quickest return) and only ramp up when you have found profitable ads.

Something to think about . . . do the 16-24 year olds have discretionary income? Some do, many don't. Some have to go to mom and dad for their toys.

    Good luck,

    Steve

Steve makes some good points. In the end, test, test, test. He also asks "does this demographic have discretionary income?"

The answer to that question, largely is YES. Lotsa these kids have small JOBS while still living at home. They often have more discretionary income than many folks.

While I do have experience marketing in a segment of this space, I will admit that I likely don't have the most. I had a business that was centered around girls of that age range. We did pretty well but as I often do, I eventually sold the business to a peer.

As a side note..... 16 to 24 year olds are a part if what's known as the mellenial generation. I have a girl of that variety and she has this "way" of getting what she wants from me. Good or bad, I'd venture to guess many of her peers have it the same way, lol.

Testing is always important. Honestly, I think logically it's a pretty good idea. The younger generation is much more active online as a whole. Good luck & post your results!
