What Type of Business Would You Start With $400?

Hey Warriors,

I had "fairly new" friend of mine asked me about making money online. I've been asked questions like these so many times, but nobody ever seems to put in the work or has the "drive" needed to make money online so until someone puts money where their mouth is, I don't take them seriously.

But this guy said all he has is $400. I said I could help him out, but that got me thinking....

How many other people out there have a little bit to start with, but don't know where to start? Or where to invest that money?

When I 1st started I had $0. My wife WOULD NOT let me waste money on this "dream" I had just 5 years ago.

So I said I will make money doing this even if it kills me, so I started with writing my own crappy articles and Web 2.0 sites.

Fast forward to today and I make pretty decent income, but things may have been different if I had some "start-up money". Maybe I wouldn't have had to wait so long to make money online.

So I ask...if you had $400 to start an internet lifestyle...what would you do?

Create your 1st product? Hire a mentor? Build a website and drive traffic? Start building your list?

What?

    Build and promote a website.

I did the same five years ago when i started my game site, and since then and after the site was well known, I have been getting large amount of money from the ads I placed on site.

I'd start the business I was good at. The money has (almost) nothing to do with it.

I also started nearly from scrap 5 years ago. Now my hosting company is quite a good-doing one, we are no industry giants, we had our ups and downs, but things are pretty solid today.
Creating a website and trying to promote it is an absolute must, of course, yet it does not cost $400, in the beginning, at least.
However, if I could spare $400 back then... I would most probably hire a mentor about website promotion and driving traffic to it. I now know much of this myself, learned by hard work and study - yet learning it quicker might be more useful, I think.

There are hundreds of possible answers. I'll throw in the first one that comes to mind.

(Scratch that. Can't give first idea. We'll go with the second...)

    -Domain
    -Hosting
    -Digital E-Book
-Apply to be an advertiser with a major affiliate network.
-Anything left over: Buy an ad spot on WF

Semi-passive income due to affiliate involvement.

I mean if you are trying to start your business online you wouldn't even need that much money if you know the best free sources of advertising.

If not then still that money won't come in handy because you won't know how to invest it correctly.

I think that money could come in handy when the business is somewhat established and by that I mean getting some traction and interest from other people.

Once that is in place you can then spend it on FB advertisement and with the existing traction/social proof you could get even more people to generate attention towards your business.

Actually, there is plenty you could do with that money starting out. It would pay for sols ads, teespring campaigns, FB ads, hosting, hiring writers, hiring webmasters to build a website, traffic generation, softwares/plugins and thats just scraping the surface.

Like I said earlier, I started with $0. Don't think for 1 moment I wanted to write all those articles myself. I needed to wait to make money off my articles and web 2.0 sites so I could afford to buy hosting and better themes/plugins, etc.

All that time spent on doing stuff manually when I could have bought software/courses to train me to do things faster instead of reading and researching and reading and researching some more. Or I could've hired someone to do it while I spent time doing things that would actually make me money, but instead I was learning how to do the tedious stuff.

Even though I am glad I learned what I did, I could of saved a lot of time and energy focusing on more important things.

If starting over with $400 and he is your friend I would only have him spending money on the absolute essentials.

    Hosting
    Domain Name
    $1 trial auto responder
    Free trial gotowebinar
    $1 trial instant teleseminar

I would let him interview you on instantteleseminar on a topic that you're good at.
I would then allow him to jump on gotowebinar and do a session of you explaining
The strategy in detail in video form.

Then work on creating a sales letter for the warriorforum.
Sell the interview as a front end product from anywhere from
$1 to $7 and the video version as an upsell anywhere from
    $17 - $97.

I would then spend $200 on Wso fee's posting and bumping the thread
By then you should have earned back the $200 if not more.

So he would be building a customer list from day 1.

Then build out the funnel for sale outside of the warriorforum and start driving solo ads to it.

    Rinse and Repeat.

Let him gets some results and create a product on how he obtained his results and start the process all over again.

Eventually he will have a suite of products and then can have a complete funnel where he can afford to go market just about anywhere online and make a profit.

Sounds like you've been around the block a few times...

That is a good plan of attack and definitely worth looking into for anyone in the same situation.

However, we've already spoke about our plan of attack and even though it's "similar" to what you've mentioned in a few ways we are going to take another route.

Not to say this won't work, because its been proven over and over it works!

Kindle business. You don't need much of initial investment compared to long term passive income you can expect from it.

                Honestly? Kindle cover design.

That market looks wide open to me. Most cover gigs are of rubbish quality, and the better cover designers often cost a small fortune. There's a big gap in the middle, and you only need to land a few 'whale' clients (marketers outsourcing books by the dozen) to be in constant work.

Much of that $400 could be spent on a solid course in Photoshop. Spend a few weeks getting good. Not expert good, but good enough to be better than most so-called cover designers. Spend the remainder of the money setting up a website and portfolio, and advertising your services at sites like the Warrior Forum.

If business gets brisk, and supply prices can go up to match the demand, then start outsourcing some of the work to whatever talented designers you can find. Or you could just save up a heck of a lot more than $400 from the profits, and have a bigger range of business options open to you in the future.

I will identify what I am good at and create some awesome stuff in my niche and start selling on some micro marketplaces like fiverr. Use those 400 bucks to drive highly targeted traffic to my gig

  • A domain and hosting can cost you only $15. Godaddy offers domains at $0.99 first year.
Aweber offers a first month trial at $0.00.

If I would not know anything about internet marketing, I'd start a new blog about something I have experience on and start blogging about that, I.E. giving tips and starting on capturing leads. Once my blog had enought traffic I'd monetize it with CPA offers or affiliate products.

I know a guy who did know how to make handmade icecream. Then he did a small video course and started to selling it. With a few marketing he started to sell it and earned hundreds per day.
Sometimes, you do not need to look around for something. You just need to recognize the worth of your knowledge and see how it can help people or how they can benefit from it.

Starting with $400 can be a huge bonus most people started with zero dollars, so my take would be:
Start promoting affiliate offers and use the money to fund promotion of the offers you have when you have more money you can then go into releasing you own products, also Email marketing works like a char, like they say "the money is in the list"

  • It takes much more then $400 to create great products and marketing.

I would just start with affiliate marketing...

    1) Find a great affiliate offer/funnel to promote...
    2) Start list-building
    3) Promote the offer

Use the $400 on SOLO Ads & PPC & multiply it!

I think if you have some money in your hands then you can do better Vs. you have nothing in your hand. I suggest your friend to start blogging. Suggest him some good niche you already know. He needs money to buy domain+hosting.
Invest some bucks in some good keywords research tools like longtail pro or semrush or wordtracker. Learn how to find profitable keywords.
Suggest him to speed up the work by hiring professional writers to get high quality content.
He also needs to learn how to dive traffic to his new website.

I believe that he needs hard work more than money. But if he is doing hard work and spends money too, then goals will be achieved earlier.
    good luck.

I think it all depends on a person's skill set and how time is available. If you are skilled enough and have the time to write a sell-able ebook, training course or design websites/video I would go that route and then use the $400 to drive traffic online.

If I wasn't skilled enough or didn't have the time to invest I would find a white label offer that I could quickly turn around with the wait time. One of the first offerings I made was social media marketing services. I was still working full time then so I took what I could and outsourced the rest to another company. This helped me build an income while not being overwhelmed/overworked. Eventually, I was able to build enough of an income that I quit my day job and started handling all of the account in house, which obviously improved margins instantly. Many reseller programs are free to sign up and allow for quick deployment.

My #1 choice would be a self-publishing business focusing on the low cost options like Kindle, etc.

A close second would be building a list using solo ads.

For both reinvest all profits over and over until satisfied!

With $400 you can build an online business. You can create a authority site in whatever niche you choose. Thats enough to get yourself hosting, auto responder for building a list, and if you don't want to write your own content at first you can even buy a few articles with that to start yourself off. You can begin building traffic to your website using free tactis like social media marketing and prob still have enough to a buy some traffic to your site.
