What was your job or profession before starting IM?

As the title says, let's get to know each other better by sharing your work background or education.
Plus, did your work/education experience help you in your IM ventures or your freelancing career?

I'll start:
I am an architect and I work as a fulltime architect while also slowly trying to build my IM business. My profession gave me a more better understanging of multiple concepts, from how to market myself and how to have a work ethic. Also, it chiseled my artistic sense, which helps a lot when designing an attractive website.

I worked in an agency before this, specializing in PPC and SEO. Now I work freelance, as well as managing IM ventures.

I am an editorial photographer. I specialize in celebrity and corporate photography. If you want you can view some of my work through the link below. I still do movie set photography, usually for magazines. I have been doing it for about 30 years. I became interested in IM a few years ago when I started a web design business. I become bored with web design and just stuck with IM. I now prefer working on the internet.

Before starting my business I spent over 15 years in information technology, as a web developer/dev ops engineer, I.T. manager and as an independent consultant. I've worked in government, the non-profit sector and in the private sector, including a couple of stints at internet startups. My co-founder has a background in program management and advocacy primarily in the not-for-profit sector.

Building on these strengths we've built a business that's a blend of an internet startup, an IM shop and a social good organization (though we're incorporated as an LLC not as a 501(c)3). It was a natural fit, and certainly not something most people can pull off. But to me that's the foundation of a successful business: using your skills, talents, abilities, interests and resources in a way that gives you an advantage over your competition -- not trying to repeat or replicate what everybody else is doing or following someone else's methods or business plan.

I was a trans Africa safari guide and led safaris throughout Southern and Eastern Africa. I got paid to travel.

My specialist area was the Kruger National Park in South Africa, a place I visit frequently still as I live close by.

The work was seasonal, so I had some free time and needed extra income so I started looking for "make money on the internet" in 2003 and the rest is history!

Great thread idea to know more about warrior members.

I was a personal trainer before. I am still at heart but don't earn any money from this anymore. One of my client offered me a job after some administration changes that was not a fit for me in the gym. I currently still work for him and do I.M. at the same time since it doesn't take me much time once my things are setup correctly.

I was the National Sales Director for a health products network marketing company as well as a distributor for the company (had prior network marketing experience). This led me into domain name investing (1st domain was a weight loss one) & online marketing. We also had owned a women's clothing store for 5+ years before that. I think the prior experience of promoting "make money" as well as actual physical product sales helped. Most of my IM efforts have been selling products (affiliate commissions) like clothing, health supplements, etc... . Only in the last 2 years I have started promoting digital products more heavily. I've had to adjust my focus & efforts several times in the last 14-15 years online... doing it once again.

Now retired from my first career - local small business development - applying everything I know to Internet business development. Same topic, different platform.

I have a Master's degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor's in Sociology.

To be honest, success in any business is built on a foundation of basic principles that are not platform dependent.

I love the Internet, mostly because of its immediacy and its reach. Sell whatever you want, whenever you want, and get paid for it now - what a priceless concept!
