Referral link or capture page?

I'm still relatively new to internet marketing so I would like everyone's opinion on this. If I am promoting something using traffic exchanges, solo ads, packages or even on social media sites like facebook or whatever which one of these(referral link or capture page)has the best conversion rate? Also, are there some situations where one works better than the other? I saw a post on this site not too long ago that suggested that capture pages are overall better for getting sales. I'm not sure it's always that simple but I could be wrong. Thanks.

Capture page is the best for long term success in my opinion.

Where would you be using your referral link?

Traffic exchanges and anywhere I can get traffic(mostly paid traffic). I haven't had much luck posting in facebook groups which I find to be pretty much a waste of time although I do have my own groups where I have a few pinned posts. I haven't done much with linked in yet but plan to. Also, I am on twitter so I will be posting on there. So as a general rule capture pages are much better?

A capture page for sure since that will allow you to capture email addresses and build a list. That leads to better conversions than just sending a referral link and losing the lead forever once they click off your site.

It honestly depends on what you're promoting.

9 times out of 10, though, a capture page is the best way to go. Just be sure - really sure - that you capture quality. A lot of things determine quality. Some being: traffic source, what you say on your page, what you offer to subscribers, especially new subscribers.

In your case - if I overlook not knowing your product, niche - it sounds like you're purchasing traffic. To maximize your ROI, I'd suggest the capture page. Pretty much everyone is going to tell you the same thing.

    Best of luck!!

If you ask WarriorForum, the answer is to always build a list no matter what. In the real world outside of forum fantasy the answer isn't so simple.

There are a lot of variables that must be weighed. If you are running daily offers like a Groupon, the list is vital since most people won't take on the initiative of going to the site daily and you can use email to "force" it upon them.

On the other end of the spectrum if you are pushing a video game pre-order, you have to recognize that you don't need the famous WarriorForum "build a relationship" element. Plus teens/twens are the least likely demographic to give up their email.

It all comes down to what you are selling, if it's your offer or an affiliate promo, who the target market is and so on. There is no black and white right or wrong answer.

Someone please make this a sticky.

You are going to want a good performing capture page. I would suggest doing some split testing. I usually prefer a very simple, but clean looking capture page.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely take what has been said into consideration and will probably use some kind of capture page most of the time. Thanks again!

Just one more thing to add. I am an affiliate with most of the things I am involved in so the capture page links and everything else are already done for me.

You didn't provide enough information for anyone to give you a legit response, so I wouldn't "definitely" take anything into consideration.

Well ok. That is your opinion. The key word here is "consideration" and not "definitely." Not sure what you want me to say. I am not going to go into details about my sites if that is what you are after except to say they are mostly MLM. It has already been explained to me to my satisfaction that the best methods are capture pages so that is what I am going by. I'm not on here to convince you but instead only to gather enough information that I consider sufficient. Thanks for your response though.
