Internet Marketing - What Doesn't Work?

I've been using WF for many years as my main source of information and knowledge in relation to Internet marketing. It occurred to me that I often see posts from people asking about how they should promote their site and drive traffic and visitors.

However I think it is also important to learn from what doesn't work. So do WF members have any thoughts about IM strategies that don't work?

What methods should we avoid at all costs and what impact would using these methods have on the website?

This answers may be very obvious but spamming will create a fast track to your failure. I've seen many people that buy email lists and use automated software to send their latest offers every day.

Spamming is an ineffective strategy that will not bring quality leads and it will put you at risk from being banned from several different places.

Another thing you should be away from is making fake information about yourself or creating fake results and testimonials. I seen people all the time that use fake results about their earnings to get more customers. But people eventually find out and it will bring you LOTS of trouble.

Very true. Too many fake IMers out there wasting their time trying to sell something that will guarantee people money instantly. Just be honest when it comes to IM, people buy your products because they trust you.

Buying traffic or visitors doesnt works. Conversion will be poor than ever for any niche mostly.

That's completely false. The last solo ad I bought converted at 30%. Certainly a good conversion rate for a paid traffic source.

It's all about what you buy and where from.

Buying traffic works! You should explain that a little better, but I do know buying solos or traffic from Fiverr doesn't work and is a waste.

I don't LOL very often but i just did at this (jeez!) ..such a generalized and is misinformed statement.

to the OP, dont wast too much time on what others tell you with regards to what works and what doesn't. there are many naysayers and many BSrs

you can and should make money blogging, email marketing affiliate marketing , CPA , whatever. just picking something and commit to mastering it

Pick a strategy and go test and figure it for yourself. It is easy to make money online, period.but it needs patience, consistency and determination

You need to immerse yourself, test, tweak and adapt along the way and you will be fine, but understand what you want from this, set your expectations accordingly before you start or you risk falling foul of the shiny object syndrome and/or quit before you see results.

...too many people over complicate "Internet Marketing" and / or seek quick fixes in such forums

there are many great threads and contributors in here but don't get too bogged down reading everything, just pick a strategy and get started and learn and have fun as you go

That's true. For "workability", that's nearly as bad a combination as gullible/naive people with broken, effective systems - they have no chance at all.

Traffic exchanges - wasting your time.
Spamming around your affiliate link - wasting your time.
not building your list - wasting your time
pounding your list with affiliate offers - wasting your time
using spun articles or trying to trick google - wasting your time.
buying product after product and not taking the time to learn - wasting your time.
putting in zero effort to build a real business - wasting your time.

There are a lot of pitfalls online and you must learn a lot on your own through trial and error.

Success doesn't come easy to ANYBODY , you must work your butt off if you really want it!

    Hope this helps,
    Matt

  • I would say that "looking for shortcuts" rather than adding value definitely does not work!

So many people getting into internet marketing are looking for the "secret" shortcut, whereas you have to go out there and solve problems.
