Hope this doesn't make me look like a newbie, as I could never get the terminology straight.

Would you consider blogging and social media to be a key component of content marketing, to the point of them being equivalent?

I believe blogging is more important than social media. Social media will bring you quick traffic, but blogging will be on long term. You can choose anything first and then move on to the other as you gain momentum.

They are different animals intended for different purposes and both can be employed at the same time.

I believe blogging has more of a permanence than posting on social media sites. Who ever goes back into their Facebook account, for example, to check out an entry they posted last month?

At least in blogging, a post can be called up in the archive and reviewed. I've had posts commented on years after they were introduced.

In some ways, social media content is more like a diary with the latest drama rather than content intended to be preserved and available in the future.

But do they still fall within the umbrella of content marketing, no?

I'm not joking when I say I don't know what you mean by content marketing. Is there any marketing that doesn't involve content? Can you clarify what you mean by content marketing?

travlinguy: That's a very good point. Even sending a long form sales letter through direct mail involves tons of content.

I was referring to the type of content marketing being thrown around on the internet (i.e. defined by What is Content Marketing? ). For example, someone responding to a blog post they found when finding how to solve a problem, or an PPC ad on Facebook re: a topic.

Okay. Maybe the lesson here for both of us is not to get to caught up with dopey terminology. Whether it's video, audio or hieroglyphics doesn't matter much as long as people like it and keep coming back for more.

Haha, I love your attitude. I must be overthinking. As long as it brings money, who cares what things are called, right?
