Yes. Yes. What are you trying to hide? If someone is going to give you their money, don't you at least owe them the courtesy of being up front and acknowledging them person to person?

If you have a quality product, or recommend a quality product, you should want to be associated with it.

Hiding your identity might cause the prospect to wonder why you don't want to be seen or known.

Yes I always put an "About" page or a page with a related name and information on my niche sites. Why do you ask?

I really think that you should use your better judgement. Ultimately your goal with a niche site is to develop a relationship with your users and gain trust so they buy in to what ever it is you have to offer. Users want to be dealing with real people they can trust and in the end, this will increase your credibility too. Word of mouth is a powerful tool, so use it to your advantage.

Yes I would use an about page because Google often utilises these as factor in ranking websites.

Spam sites frequently don't have about pages hence why Google uses them as one factor in their algorithms.

  • My reply to Brians 34 is emphatically yes! So I agree with those who replied likewise and for the same reasons.

If you don't have an about me page and also don't write using your own name then how the Hell do you expect anyone who is sane to trust you and ever buy what you are selling or recommending?

I also always have a Privacy Policy page as well as a web email contact protected against those idiots who post stupid spam comments linking to unrelated trash offers there of course.

Why would anyone answer that they don't without also admitting that they also don't earn a penny?

Yes. Definitely! Everything MashedUp, Steve , Malachi and Paid Surveys said. Also, the page is not limited to being about you and the website. It is an opporitunity to brand the website and yourself and promote the products and services.

Of course, I am using the "ABOUT" Page in all of my niche site. But it is not important about my NAME. If I use the ABOUT page, one can get a clear idea about my site. So I use the page in my every site.

Not only do I have an about page on each and every affiliate site I have. I go so far as to leave a phone number to contact me with questions. Anything you can do to #1 add reassurance. #2 assist in the process. And #3, if they are calling ME, to ask questions, they are looking for the excuse to buy, its simply my job to provide it!

We always did, because it lended credibility. Of course you can use a generic one. But I agree that you don't have to use your full name.

Google prefers sites to have About, Contact and Privacy Policy. They should be on all sites, and there should be links to them from every page (I tend to put those links in small text at the very bottom, as well as the Contact link elsewhere). So if you want Google to give you free traffic, it makes sense to keep them happy

The About page can be a place where you describe your company or project or site in exciting and inspirational ways to help people be interested in it! For some of my sites which are mostly product reports, I don't say much in the About page (I combine it with the legal affiliate declaration), because people don't really care much who I am, they care what I say about the product they are considering buying. On other sites that are about interesting projects, I use the About page to write something that will help visitors be interested in who I am and what I am going, and why, etc.

I don't have an "about me" page on my site, but all of my subscribers and customers *know* who i am. I'm a real dude. If they want to google me to see if i'm a legit and real dude.... they know what to do. I even give these people my cell phone number in my lead-in product so that they can talk to me if they want about a particular matter. They do it too. They know what time it is. They know they can rely on me to help them if they have a problem.

Can your "about me" page accomplish this?

One common thing people get wrong is thinking their "About Me" page really is about them.

      It isn't.

It's about the reader. About what you can offer them, and why they should trust you.

Some personal detail is fine, but it should also support your presence in the niche.

Say I was doing a site on making a marriage last. I might drop the detail that I live in Florida with my wife of over 30 years, or show a picture from my 25th anniversary, etc.

As for the name, it depends. The name I show may not be the one I was born with, but it is the name I'm willing to become known by in that space.

All of the responses are leaning in one direction. Definitely include an "About" page. Now whether you put your personal information on there or not is up to you. Does your personal info lend credibility to your site? If you are a corporation, you might not want to list your personal info, rather list some real points of contact who are relevant to that site in your company...

I always have used an About page on sites. From what I've learned about Google, they want to see pages such as 'about', 'privacy policy', 'contact' etc. But, in a niche site, where I'm promoting affiliate products through information, I don't use my name. It's more of a general 'about' the site page. There should always be a link to a contact page on the about page too.
