Releasing my first video product... I'm totally confused

It seems the more I research and learn here at the forum the more I get confused about what the right way to do it is.

My product is a combination of video and ebook.

  • I understand that software like DLguard can help me make the pdf-distribution secure. That's nice.
  • I understand that it's possible to build membership sites (with e.g. WP wishlist) with secure areas where I could show videos.
  • I want the product to be as easy to access as possible (a login to a membership site may already be too complicated for many potential customers).
  • On the other hand, I want it to be as secure as possible, so that the video is not accessible for everyone.

I'd appreciate if anyone can tell me good working solutions for this. Please point me in the right direction because presently I suffer from information overkill and feel confused.

    Hi there,

You can deliver the video as a download through DLGuard as well and then it is secure. Alternatively, you can show people the video on the DLGuard download page but then when their access expires they have no access to it.

I'd recommend zipping up the video and allowing them to download it. Quick and simple solution

I usually allow my customers to download the videos as well as watch them online because some people want to download them to watch later and if they have to keep coming back to the website it's more hassle for them.

    All the best

If you only have one video add the link inside the pdf to download then password protect the pdf.

Offer the PDf through DLGuard and thats about as far as you need to go.

In DLGuard put the link to the download of the PDf and the password to access.

Thanks for the input so far.
As usual, answers give rise to new questions...

      Download the video with downloadguard:

Is there an established video format to use?
Maybe something like FLV + flashplayer in a zip file?

Password protected pdf with link to video

      I like this one.
But still, the video site would be freely accessible, right?
People could send around that videolink in emails or put it on a forum... hmm.

      Any more suggestions?

MP3 gives you a small file size and a good quality video. Put the video, PDF, and any other files in one ZIP file. Then, use DL Guard to deliver the ZIP file to your customers.

    Hey..

You have information overload written all over your face

Take a step back, clear your head and think about what you want. You could end up wanting to re-create go-daddy if your not careful

Have you thought of doing it super easy and safe by setting up an autoresponder to your members and sending them the link to the vid/ebook? This can be put in a hidden blog page by putting this:

wp_list_pages(exclude=ID,ID) ID being the page/post number. Then whenever you do a new page just make the hidden page the parent page and your set.

This would be really easy implement and will do without the need for your users to log in.

If you worried about people stealing then so is the music industry. It happens and there isnt too much you can do about it because if someone want to tell the world what your teaching, then they will. But google has made it super easy to catch by you just taking a phrase and doing a search. If you have a duplicate then take action.

Better yet, send out a physical CD using Kunaki. Cheap and safe and will do without passwords or anything digital!

Hope this helps and all the best

    Cheers

ありがとう, Kevin. Sounds like a simple solution.

Thanks, Will, for pointing me to Kunaki. That looks really interesting.

    Hi there,

The format for the video depends on your target audience. I tend to use MP4 now as it's a fairly portable and easy to read standard. I also direct people to a free player in case they need it.

    All the best
