Bill Gates Wiggles Butt on National TV

INTERNET MARKETING

It's Sunday afternoon--and football (American version w/elliptical ball) season so I'm watching the Tampa Bay Bucs vs. the (this week) New Orleans Saints. (Buc 10, Saints 7 early in the 3rd)

Commercial comes on. Some actor who looks familiar and--is that Bill Gates?--are buying shoes and chatting.

They start talking about computers and "ease of use" as they walk away from the shoe store.

Bottom line: Unknown actor asks Gates if ease of use is on the horizon. Camera now shooting from their rear as they walk away. Gates reply to question is a "butt wiggle". Fade to "Windows Logo".

Implies "something new" is out there...

Not sure this is a side of Bill Gates I really wanted to see...

I seen the commercial.

I did not get it? Maybe it went over my head or something.

  I was talking to a Computer Geek who follows all the stuff your soul buddy Gates gets into. He told me there is a major change in the wind that will be a major breakthrough that will affect Vista and the whole Microsoft operating system.
  
  But you know how rumors are spread, but this commercial could be a leak about the same thing. My geek told me it was to take place before the first of the year.

  lol..."unknown actor" is Jerry Seinfeld...unless that was a joke that went over my head. There is a discussion that got pretty interesting in the Off Topic forum.
  
  Apparently it's a part of some huge campaign and this is the tip of the iceburg for what is to come.

  *YAWN* Wanting to be the BEST is not evil. And though I'm no "tree hugger" the polar ice caps are melting. We will eventually kill ourselves off if we don't watch it. I support capitalism and doing your own thing, and being a bit ruthless. That lack of ruthlessness, and just plain courage is why most people (unlike us Warriors who choose the path less traveled) will only ever complain and never DO anything about their situation. I was there once. If I can get out so can anyone else.

  No Jenn, it wasn't a joke. I don't watch much network TV.
  
  I also don't spend much time in the OT...
  
  The one thing that struck me about the commercial was that it wasn't as ridiculous as many featuring CEO's , Chairmen of Boards, etc.

  Edible computers? Hmmm... I better not buy the chocolate variation... particularly the "Extreme Moosetracks" covered in chocolate syrup variation. I don't think I would get much work done.
  
  I see you were part of the Pre-TV generation. You were already outside doing work or whatever else... while kids today are chatting away on their IM's, texting, and watching the TV's replacement... YouTube.
  
  All while at the same time complaining because they have to do one simple task of raking the leaves or mowing the yard. Make them work on a farm for 30 days... and we will see how much they complain about that yard work afterwards.
  
  TV and computers were already there when they got here. Both computers and tv were yet to be invented when you got here. Dramatically changes the way people conduct themselves. I am actually surprised to see someone of your age even involved in Internet Marketing.
  
  My Dad is a few years older than you... I gave up trying to explain to him what I do a long time ago. He barely knows how to use email and the internet... much less understand the concept of Internet Marketing.
  
  So it is no surprise you don't know who Jerry Seinfeld is and watch very little TV. But I would almost bet you money, if we mentioned some of the radio comedians... you would know exactly who we were talking about. Sadly I can't think of any of their names.

  Not everyone over the age of 50 is a Radio guy. This 62-yr old watched plenty of TV growing up, and, sadly, now. I know how to IM and text, and can even re-build a PC from scratch. I also know how to work 30-days on the farm.
  
  Don't stereotype us old guys based on your father. Try to remember that computers were invented in the 40's and 50's, and that PCs became common in the 70's - well before Your time, I suspect.

  That's the common theory - and may be right for the majority. But I know kids who are limited on TV hours and shows - not allowed to text, and are only on the internet when supervised.
  
  Hard to imagine, isn't it? Some parents are still parenting.
  
  And it's amazing how many over-50's and retirees have taught themselves computer skills. I wonder what the challenge will be when those raised to use technology constantly (computers, cell phones, texting) starts retiring. Maybe there will be a movement toward "alone time" or disconnecting.....
  
  As for texting - you can have it. I have no desire to be "linked" to friends constantly or to have conversations that never end.

  I was going to reply earlier, but here at "The Home" they limit my internet time ever since they found me surfing "nekkidgurls.com". Fortunately I was able to toddle past the nurse a couple minutes ago...
  
  As to being involved in internet marketing I just can't help myself. I've been buying and selling stuff for the past forty years or so. Haven't starved yet.
  
  The important thing to remember is that despite what Marshall McLuhan said, "the medium is not the message."
  
  Sales and marketing have been around since time immemorial. As same as ever was we still have to:
  1. Identify prospects
  2. Persuade them of the value and benefit(s) of our particular product
  3. Having done that accept the payment

That "some actor" was the unfunny, retired comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

I've tried to watch Seinfeld over the years and laugh just once... never did... and I've tried. He's so unfunny (I know most will disagree here). He never gave me a douche chill once... not even close.

Stephen Colbert... funniest guy on TV. It's a shame he pushes the criminal, global elite's agenda like the global warming hoax, etc.

And about the commercial... did you notice is was 2 minutes instead of one?

Regarding Bill Gates... the most evil man on the planet. I'm not kidding. His idol is Thomas Malthus... here's a quote from his hero:

That comment wasn't an indication of someone being old... Isn't 60 the new 40 anyway?

Perhaps I should have worded that differently. I was only saying that as an indicator of when he was born and the habits of kids of that time... or at least kids in rural KY. Possibly different in urban areas... or Florida.

I actually assumed that you had worked in sales and marketing before, Elmer. Again it wasn't about age... but more about the era of time you grew up in. I wasn't stereotyping anyone. I was only basing my comments on people that I have encountered over the years... and few baby boomers know computers as well as you.

The technical side of the comments was referring to PC's... not the actual first computer. I don't like to think of PC's being before my time. They were actually, in my opinion... taking off right around the time I was born.

I remember the classrooms having boot disks, token rings, etc. And not the boot disks you are thinking of... the kind where you issued commands like load and run.

Microsoft was founded in 1975. Apple was founded in 1976. I was born in 1978. So to me that is when computers really took off. But I'm sure some would find that debatable. But for the sake of argument, I was referring to computers in the home.

40 years of sourcing and sales experience... Internet Marketing must be a breeze for you. Especially since you know computers from the inside out.

But so this stays on topic....

I am wondering if this commercial is an indicator that Bill Gates may be turning into what Dave Thomas was for Wendy's. Bill could be the spokesperson of Microsoft... since he stepped down from having an active role at Microsoft.

That commercial wasn't all that funny except for the conquistador line...

almost as funny as the guitar hero bit... when Bill stepped down from Microsoft...

  There are some things I know, others I just think I know and even more about which I'm clueless.
  
  I think it was John L who knows computers "inside and out". You're getting us "old guys" mixed up. I guess we all look alike.

  From a purely subjective stance I think Dave Thomas had a more compelling story than Bill Gates. Gates has found himself "the man everyone loves to hate." Natural charisma goes a long way toward a corporate spokesman's acceptance.
  
  He may be a harder sell than Dave Thomas.
