How to figure out what's selling

I'm a coder and I love to build websites, SAAS tools, scrapers, gadgets.

I've decided this what I want to do for a living. I'm only interested in recurring revenue streams so I want to build scripts what I can list for sale on my site or others, and can update the script as time goes on to keep it current.

I'm trying to figure out ways to discover what scripts are currently selling. I know how to do keyword research, but that doesn't answer the question, what's selling.

I'd also be interested in learning how to learn from business owners, webmasters, site owners what software challenges they face. Either software they want but can't find, or improvements that could be made to existing software to make it more functional for them.

Any advice you have on all of this would be greatly appreciated.

I guess the best thing you can do is to check on Codecanyon to see which tools are selling well. Some sell thousands of copies so you can create something similar and make it better if possible.

You'll have to go to a marketplace where scripts are sold and popularity
ranked to get your answer. If you coming up with a completely NEW
script then you'll have to do some research and find out what common
problems your target market needs solved.

This means hanging out in forums, Facebook groups, looking at new
trends from search engines, surveying your present customers. As
you can see there are no real shortcuts.
