Recommend source of income in NBA basketball sports niche?

Season's going to start next week and my traffic will sky rocket again for sure. My website is sitting on top 3-8 in the search keyword that is related to watching the game online for free (I aint streaming anything illegal just to be clear). This website is rock solid on that position for almost 5 years already.

During the off season I'm getting 200 UV per day only and it'll back again to 1000 UV per day once the season starts and that's base from the past statistics.

Currently, the only source of income is Adsense and I wanna try or add a different source of income. I wanna try affiliate marketing though I don't want to use third party company like clickbank.

Can you guys recommend or suggest ways to maximize the income of this website?

Thanks!

As you already know, Adsense isn't a great money-maker, but I'm not sure affiliate marketing is going to be all that useful to you either. You could do stuff like trying to promote NBA-branded merchandise or secondary market tickets, perhaps targeting specific products/tickets based on the teams playing (e.g., highlighting a LeBron James jersey when Cleveland is playing) or based on the location of the user on your site (e.g., someone visiting your site from LA, would see an offer for Laker's tickets), but I frankly doubt that would bring much more -- if any more -- than you're seing from Adsense. The biggest problems I see are:
    • NBA fans are very diverse -- in age, race, income, gender and especially in what they spend their money on.
    • People who visit your site are looking for passive entertainment, they aren't going there to shop. To be successful, affiliate marketing needs to catch people when they are ready to buy. And I'd guess that most of the users you are targeting are visiting your site precisely because they are trying to avoid spending money (on a legitimate streaming service). Definitely not the profile of someone with shopping on his/her mind!
    • In my experience, the most successful affiliate marketing comes from building relationships with your users, relationships in which users trust you and the products you recommend. I just don't see how you're going to build this sort of relationship with your customers, when all they're really looking for is free entertainment.
    • Finally, some (if not most) affiliate programs might not like your type of site if they feel that it's encouraging illegal activity -- even if your site itself isn't doing anything illegal.
That said, it still might be worth running some experiments. After all, if you're only getting 1,000 unique visitors/day, I doubt you have much to lose by replacing a few Adsense ads with some affiliate offers. But fundamentally, I think it's a tough lift to effectively market to people who only have three things in common:
    1. A love of basketball
    2. A disregard for copyright law
    3. A desire to avoid spending money

Sign up for the Steiner Sports or Sportsmemorabilia.com affiliate programs. You get paid 13 or 12% of each sale that you make. Also amazon have some good NBA memorabilia and gear that you can promote to your followers.

Personally I would promote the Amazon affiliate program in your niche. Fine and PA products that you can link to your site in the Amazon affiliate program.

I would pay a content writer to create some product specific reviews and then link to Amazon products to these.
