How Many Times Did You Have To Fail Before Creating A Successful Business?
I would like everyone who has a successful online business to share in a paragraph or two on how long it took them to establish their business.
There is this ongoing belief that if its is an online business than one can just have it done and ready in less than a year. Everybody is obsessed with this 4 hour workweek mentality and while it is a good goal to have let it NOT make you delusional.
Online business is JUST like any other business - obviously it has its major pros but still a lot of work needs to be put in for visible results. Especially if you want it to be your main source of income.
So let us share how we did it and how it is successful now after how many years.
This should open up the mindset of newcomers so they won't fall for quick schemes as easily!
I will start it up - I started when I was 13 years old and found out about internet marketing then. The usual story goes that I spent ton of money on products and got scammed - though learned a lot. After about 3 years I had my first biz that was about web dev. This didn't last too long because of enormous amount of overhead.
After a few years of dabbling around and looking for more things I have found learned more that the key to a successful business is how scalable it can get - how much it can be extended with how much overhead. Pretty much the gist of it all. There are other components as well but this hits homerun for me.
So then after a few more years I have founded Avocado Plugins and started doing custom plugins for clients - this ones again was too much overhead and so I hired a team (at this point we have 6 developers!)
I then decided to change the business model and make it so that we only sell plugins we make ourselves - this way we provide value AND no too much overhead.
Since most of our work was for our clients we couldn't showcase any of the plugins so we slowly started to write our own plugins and putting them up publically and have many more too come.
This here shows another lesson - having a GREAT team is another must when you already have your business somehow established OR you can start it up with a team - either way works depending on your situation - use our judgement.
As you can see:
1) It takes years whether you want to or not - you NEED to master many skills because especially if you are the owner in the beginning YOU have to do everything on your own.
2) Having a great team helps a lot.
3) Building a business around your passion that provides value and also has a market for it - mine was software development and programming and entrepreneurship.
4) Instead of thinking about money think about how you can help other people grow THEIR businesses - and think about it genuinely - it is very difficult for us as humans to think about doing something when we have no benefit in it. BUT here is the beautiful thing - the more you help other the more money you make. But that shouldn't be your driving force - instead you should think how can I help these people make more money.
Now it is your turn
