Article Wrting question!

Hey community,
hope you are doing well!

Just a question about article writing...

Is it possible to make a fulltime living by just writing articles and selling them to the through the major sites...?

If so, is there any course out there which is teaching this area of business?

Thx and have a great day!

Yes, if I've understood you correctly, and there are some people doing it through Constant-Content (just about), though maybe not very many people. I think it's much more common - and perhaps a better prospect - for writers to use those "content mills" as a stepping-stone toward having their own regularly returning private clients.

You probably won't find a better "content mill" site than Constant-Content. It's relatively easy for people who can write competently to earn $1,500+ per month there. But it takes time, because the best-paid work there is all "private commissions" and you're not eligible for them until you've sold some "general articles". Some people try it and give up much too early.

In the long run, it's better to have your own, private, paying clients and to choose customers who will return for more (i.e. customers who know how to use the articles you write!). To get them, however you market your services, you'll need a small, professional, simple, clear, non-hypey, non-salesy website with at least two specimen articles on it, and at least two good testimonials from customers, and to state your prices and terms of service very openly.

The big mistake to avoid is to "start cheap" imagining that you can increase the prices once you have some customers. This market doesn't work that way, and there are reasons for that. They're real and reliable and valid reasons and they'll apply to you just like they apply to everyone else.

(If you have to write a couple of "cheapies" just to get your initial testimonials, then so be it, I suppose, but don't make a habit of it! ).

Key concept (i): at the bottom end of the market, there are almost as many service-providers as customers, so that's the hardest way to earn anything.

Key concept (ii): what attracts customers to buy the services of people who write articles for $5-$10 is the price: as soon as that increases, all the customers disappear (to become customers of one of the thousands of other people from all over the world offering the service at that price), and the service-provider effectively has to start all over again.

Key concept (iii): the main reason you see providers of $5-$10 articles continually advertising and marketing is that their clients businesses' tend not to survive (mostly because they don't know how to use the product, rather than because the product itself is no good - though that can also sometimes be true), so they have to replace them all the time. The main reason you don't see providers of $100-$150 articles advertising at all is that their clients know how to use the product, profit from it and return regularly for more articles, with the effect that those writers tend to have all the work they want without needing to advertise at all. (A small proportion of those articles do actually change hands through Constant-Content, as well.) At lower prices, article-writers need continually to be marketing their own services. People who want their income to depend entirely on their own marketing skills should become marketers, not service providers.

Don't let anyone convince you that writing articles online is a way to 'get rich quick'. You might earn money, but if you are selling cheap, you will never get rich, no matter how many you sell. And, this won't happen quickly. For the time and energy some 'writers' put into working for others, they could pour that same content onto their own blog and make way more money in the long run.

You CAN make money from article writing. But, as has already been said, it is a long-term process. I do it and I have quite a few regulars and I also pick up ad hoc jobs. I am always keen to find more work and I keep my options wide open.
The longer you do it, the more of a reputation you get and you pick up referrals as well.

But you must provide top quality work and be persistent. Always market yourself and always be looking for new avenues for work.

Lexy's post is perhaps the best one to ever use because of the many links she has and the sound advice she offers, based on her own experience.

He is right...I am an article writer myself and from my experience I think to succed you will have to be patience because you will need to build reputation to make thousands per month. Join different freelancing sites and look for work, the better you write the faster you will build reputation.

Your question's answer depends on many things. Such as Quality of writing, Region & how much money do you expense for living etc. If your writing quality is good, then you will be able to earn a huge amount of money, Which may cover your daily expensive. If you are a native speaker, it is plus point. Such as if your write in English language & your are a native speaker, your rate will be rally high.
You need to expert in the writing section. Also you need to make clear idea on the subject.

This is an excellent point about daily expenses as it's cheaper to pay the rent and buy groceries in some parts of the world than others. You can't really earn a decent income as a $5.00 freelancer in America and many Western Countries but this is not true in all places. So keep that in mind when pricing your articles and searching for long-term, good paying clients.

As always Alexa provides the best advice. Writing for Constant Content is a great way to get started and practice at the same time. Years ago my youngest son wanted to make money writing and before I would let him write for our customers I made him write 100 articles for a program that ended up being Yahoo Contributors, which I believe is now out of business.

If you have some ability writing is a skill that you can actually improve on. Kind of like shooting free throws or putting. There is no substitution for practice.

You might want to start a blog in a niche you enjoy and write for yourself to hone your skills. That is another way to improve.

I think that creating and promoting your own product on your own site would be a better way to go. Use article writing as one of your traffic building methods to direct traffic back to your site.

    Good morning!

Thanks for all your responses. Pretty interesting input from your sites...

The thing is, I would´nt target the english speaking market, because Im not a native speaker, as you can read probably in my threads and posts...

From time to time Im getting some jobs for writing articles.. but nothing consistent. I should really think about promoting myself a bit better in the world of article writers.

As I said before, thanks for all your advices and inputs.

Have a great day and keep up doing this good work!

    Your,
    PHR

You can earn much more money as a freelancer on any site, even on your own by starting an email list. Your subscribers are your potential and past customers and only by having them on a list can you ensure that you will be able to talk to them later on as new services become available.
