Using photos and other content for Facebook Fan Pages

Hi everyone

I'm just getting started in the internet marketing game and amongst other things, I'm going about setting up a couple of Facebook Fan Pages and a YouTube channel.

I've been looking at a lot of Facebook pages while doing my research and I'm wondering where everyone gets such a large volume of consistently high quality photos?

Do most people just take their images from Google and if so what are the implications? Am I likely to have my Facebook page taken down if I use photos from Google images? And is it even ethical to do this?

I have the same concerns about using clips from YouTube to make compilation videos. Do the same implications apply as the above example?

Thanks in advance for your help

Rich

    1. About the image usage from google: yes, your page may be disabled if you publish a copyrighted image from some authority website (ex: edu sites or commercial sites like graphicriver,..), you need to learn basic photo editing skills to make a pic your own
    2. I have heard that compilation clip is facing the new Tos of Youtube, it might be taken down any time.

There are a ton of royalty free image sites, where it's likely that people are getting these images from. They can cost around 10 cents to 25 cents per image.

If you type "royalty free images" into google, you should find what you're looking for.

The beauty of Facebook and Google+ is the ability to share photos that others have already posted. Just be sure those people are either on your friends list or from pages that have the right to use them.

Just because others have the right to use or a license to use photos does not automatically mean you do. If your use is considered fair use, or the photo is in the public domain, then you do, if it's not then you don't. If the photo is a CC image (not CC0 as that is public domain) then the use would require attribution.

#1 Google image search contains millions of copyrighted images so in most cases you should use images that are copyright free. Even if you use Google's advanced search function they do not guarantee the images are copyright free. It is best to get permission or obtain a license from the copyright owner or stock agency. The penalty can be as much as $150,000 per photo, per violation here in the US for egregious copyright violations.

#2 You can't just take a copyrighted photo and make it your own as derivative pix are also covered by copyright laws.

The best thing to do when using pix that you did not purchase a license for, that are not considered "fair use", is to use public domain photos or Creative Commons photos with attribution.
