Default First Time Poster: Website or Blog? (constructive criticism/honest help wanted)

This is my first post, so a little info about me: I am a college accounting/prelaw student in the city of Philadelphia and am hoping to eventually generate some kind of monetary gain, however slow or small, from the ever growing financial sector of internet marketing; I had no idea how huge/complicated/competitive the whole field really was until I started really looking into it a few weeks ago.
As for my question, whether you think either is a good idea, or both are terrible and not even worth another thought, feel free to reply or message me via my account. I’m interested to know what any of you guys have to say.

I don’t have a product to sell, or any ideas as of right now, so I think my best bet would be to pursue affiliate marketing. I have a niche I have found worth pursuing, (recreation field that interests me).
Website:
I was thinking of building a website (which I have some experience with) that basically reviews/highlights affiliate vendor products in that niche. I would promote the site through backlinking/article sites/adwords and hope that eventually down the road I am able to produce some kind of steady visitation …is this idea bogus overall? Would it be better to focus on one product by itself? I was thinking along the lines of generating a site that looked legitimate and flashy that would review a wide array of products and drive site viewers to buy those products through review links….I’ve read about building sites that are simply landing pages for various affiliate products, is that a better strategy?
Blog:
Or, would a blog about this niche be better suited? And review various affiliate products in a blog format….and just promote products through the blog? And promote the blog in the same fashion as I would the website?
I understand that I’m going to have to put out some money as far as building a website/domain name/hosting and marketing costs of my own and understand that; you have to spend money to make money. Up to this point, finding your forum has been very helpful as far as understanding internet marketing….as of a few weeks ago I had no idea what affiliate marketing was or had even the slightest idea what PPC/SEO/Clickbank/Article Marketing/Adsense/Adwords all were. If any of my ideas were blatently awful I apologize haha.
Any help would be much appreciated, and if you wouldn’t mind messaging me privately as long as it isn't a scam or something and helping me out that’d be awesome and I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello,

If you have HTML/PHP skills you can easily build your own website, but if this is your first Internet Business project I'd suggest you a blog. I'm promoting stuffs with Wordpress too, just started my site a few days ago.
