How to Make an Ass of Yourself in a Niche You Don't Understand

I tend to look for technical niches because I'm only comfortable writing about familiar things, so there are a few popular niches which I feel I could drum up some enthusiasm for, and most recently I have been looking into the renewable energy scene.

Anyway I found this article on solar power which claims to explain how solar panels work. When I saw it I initially thought it was some kind of parody or someone taking the mickey out of EZA. But no, as far as I can see it's meant as an informative article. Here's a sample:

The electrons go through a series of filters ... to assure that the electricity produced is composed of pure electrons. Having protons mixed in the procedure would only cause power interruption. The protons are absorbed and disposed through an alternate exhaust, which excretes the molecules away from the battery connection.
I'd hate to be standing in front of the proton exhaust when those molecules are excreted.

The author appears trapped somewhere between Star Trek and Noddyland.

People, if you don't understand your niche then at least find someone who does to proof read your products.

I shudder to think where content like this is heading after it meets some newbies armed with automated article spinners...

Or does it not really matter as long as it gets the clicks.

Here in it's fullness is the solar travesty.

OK, this is what I mean by search engine fodder. If the SEs like this because it has related keywords and the main keyword density is just right, then you get great backlinks and from that you get rankings and traffic. However, I found that a large benefit of posting well written articles is that PEOPLE, not search engines like the articles and visit your site.

Hopefully it will be excreted, like that article should have been.

I tend to believe that was either a really bad gag, or a test to see if the editors at EZA would boot the article for being inaccurate. I can't imagine anyone who knew enough to use the words he did actually being that far off the mark.

Unless he's been out in the sun, soaking up those polluted molecules too long?

I think most people wouldn't even realize they didn't know what they're talking about cause it's such a technical niche that many don't understand. "Uhh, what's a proton?" I'm sure many people wouldn't even think to doubt the article.

Uuuhh.... EZA DOES have live editors approving the articles posted there, right? Or at least spot-checking them? (Don't they????)

Did you get the name of the author and report them? Go to their site and post on their message board or blog? It seems to me somebody should do something.

        What were they selling, anyway?

I can't believe people would actually post stuff like that! All it takes is one Google search and everyone will know what an idiot you are, so why on earth anyone would dare to put out stuff like that is beyond me.

SEO First Page of Google Sunshine, This WSO is ALMOST Free. $7 for the first 1,000 Warriors, after that the price goes to $5. We are taking this WSO down 2 minutes after is goes up, SO GIVE US THE MONEY NOW!

Crazy Sue Ann, as a representative of a Galaxy Far, Far Away, we are here to inform your Magenta Haired Radiance that there are many men in our Galaxy who are fans of your video. Your wonderfullness is #1 on UniverseTube Video, ww.UniTube.com This is in another Universe where Solar Plates absorb sunlight molecules. Those sunlight molecules are ouchie little buggers when they hit you. Sun bathing is much like being bombarded by golf ball sized hail on your planet. No one has much of a tan.

      1. There is NO such thing as a Sunlight Molecule. Light has been hypothesized by one, Al Einstein as being a WAVE. Particles do NOT travel at the speed of light, nothing does...yet, (maybe Google, I said maybe.)

Electrical engineering 101, energy equals mass squared multiplied by the speed of light. Light might just be both a wave and a particle (no one on this planet really knows). Electrons and protons are particles, light (the shiny stuff from the sun) are waves that travel at...well very fast. Sunlight is a WAVE. When you convert a wave into a particle then you are...uh...God...or the author of this wonderful article. Or maybe you own a Particle Accelerator in Switzerland.)

(Note to Crazy Sue Ann: That is the greatest video we've seen lately and the entire planet of Alpha-Sigma-Omicron IV signed up for your newsletter. You are VERY good!)

Obviously the writer of this post has read way too much Science Fiction over the past 50 years and knows absolutely NOTHING about Science. However the writer does know about a good scam when he sees the Sunlight Molecules coming in his direction.

That's why I'm going into the horse niche...

The varieties of horses are many and each requires their own special kind of care. Pintos haunches near the mane are several hands high for ease of rein attachment through the saddle stirrup assembly. Stallions tend to bronco the pasture but require fewer oats. The equininity of a mare is majestic as the dressage implies.

Aw heck! I could go on, but it's too dang hard to make stuff up that's as good as the "author" in the OP.

Being on a technical subject though many would not even know it was a made up article. Ann loved the video and at $10,000 the course sounds like a "steal". lol

If you start reporting every article that gives bad advice, you better hire an army. It's fodder, nothing more - and there's loads of it on websites, on blogs, on forums, and on article directories.

If you want to know how solar panels work - are you going to go to EZA to find out? No. That misinformation makes the author look stupid - but isn't going to hurt anyone. It's what happens when you outsource articles on the cheap and don't have the sense to read them yourself.

          Hi Kay,

          Excellent point.

I once took the time to report an EZA article that was giving out information that was VERY harmful. In good conscience, it had to come down.

          Or so I thought.

Unfortunately, the article remained. That's understandable from EZA's point of view. They have their hands more than full just checking to make sure contributors follow the simple TOS. If they started reviewing content for accuracy they could be liable for any misinformation that caused harm to a reader.

Even with an army, it would be virtually impossible.

          All the best,

Hey relax man, I'm a fan too! Hence the imaginary realm in between.

Anyway the article in question evidently is plausible.

I've already found re-spins and fragments of this and similar gibberish all over the place, rehashed and infecting the articles of other unsuspecting 'experts'.
