Offline Marketing For Museum

Hi,

I am looking for ideas pertaining to a museum that is looking at lifelong engagement by a older generation. By older generation I mean those that have grandchildren and family and whom were around in the 50's,60's and 70's so they can tell their stories to the younger generation.

Obvious drawback with people in that generation is technology or their lack of experience with it. The museum does have a lot of interactive displays around the museum but the question is how would YOU get the older generation coming back time after time?

Thanks

Can you be a bit more specific on what is in the museum now?

Also, would the museum have the capability to create something like a "generous donations" area - where perhaps the generation you are looking to attract is able to audio record some kind of story about something particular they've seen in the museum and then that story becomes part of the museum?

Perhaps the donors get their name added to a wall or a lifetime discount to come back and visit again?

    It's a combination of elements.

    1. You need a reason for them to visit. You can suggest the reason or reasons, but it will be the museum who must implement them.

    2. You need access to age data when choosing your online ad platforms. I actually do this for many of the products I promote. In this niche, I would suggest Facebook. As far as offline goes, think about where the locals of that age can be found in the real world. Then promote there. Simple, I know, but I use this myself for different products.

I suggest offer me a facebook fanpage, and a youtube channel with regular updates of what is happening in the museum.

Where do you kids get these crazy ideas?

You think that no one over fifty understands or uses technology just because they don't document their lives on social media or have a bluetooth surgically embedded?

Start with the question "How could I get anyone coming back time after time?"

For a museum, two important things are making it a fun destination (sounds like this is being done) and keep adding new things to see. Why do you think museums rotate exhibits from time to time? Because they like tearing down and rebuilding displays and packing and shipping items?

The idea of soliciting oral histories is a good one, especially if coupled with relevant displays. I can't find the URL offhand, but there's a museum in an overpass on I-80 in Nebraska that does a masterful job of this.

I'd say more, but I'm missing my Matlock marathon...
