Help Connect via Skype, Cell, Landline..anything

If anyone can help with the following, it would be appreciated:

We used to be able to use Skype and nice pricey headphones to record voice and speak with others. Now nothing.

We have Windows XP, if that helps any, but I doubt it, as many others report this around the Web with Vista. The mic refuses to allow anyone or anything -- be it a new driver, new total headphones package or anything, regardless of all tech help available. And again, many others online have open tickets on this for lengthy periods.

Outside the USA, we also cannot be heard on the phone, a land line, or cell phone - - all totally different service providers, and be heard at all. We can hear the people speak, but no one can hear us at all.

What's going on here?

Any help would be appreciated. I've seen tickets all over for this and no one has any help at all.

did you upgrade to the new skype.

Do you try uninstalling and re-installing.

Does the microphone work on other programs (audacity).

Do you know where the mic control on Skype is?

    Have you pushed mute ?

      Yes, upgraded Skype.

No, mic works nowhere now. It did before, but for no reason works nowhere. All computers will not allow audio settings in cpanel to slide so someone can actually hear sound.

Yes, still no help, though with mic control.

Tried to push and unselect mute, no help.

      Thanks for trying!

      Diana,

Have you tried going back to the restore point on your computer where Skype and the headphones worked?

We've tried a couple different mics, nothing works. And restore can't be the issue as we have this happeneing on multiple computers, each with different resotres, one brand new - all with XP.

        My best guess it this:

...it's got to be some sort of cpanel / computer related issue, since we cannot adjust volumns / mutes (although all computers are different models, etc. so this is doubtful)

....or some sort of XP issue. So digging there.

THanks for the helpful triesd and replies!

          Hi Diana,

I noticed that you said that you have a New Computer.
Did you just add it to your network?

If so, Make sure the computer's network name is not the same as any of
the other computers on your network.

Having two computers with the same names on the same network can
          cause weird things to happen.

Have a Great Day and Good luck!

humm... should have read the other post better.

should have read the other post better...again...

Almost seems like the mic are not detected....weird problem.

i was thinking of a problem with the router or on the internet provider side. maybe with QoS.

      Diana,

      One other thought.

For the last few days, whenever I start up my computer, Windows Firewall tells me certain functions of Skype are dangerous and asks if I want to block them.

Maybe your firewall is blocking these features without telling you. I switched off the Windows firewall when I installed my AV software, but you know Microsoft stuff, it just doesn't do what it's told.
