I new to this online marketing thing. I getting into it because I simply hate my job. I see a lot of people posting videos on YouTube talking about how easy it is to make money online. I'm not having such an easy time right now. so I would like to know can I really make money online and if so what steps can I take to do so. By way, I'm a music producer trying to sale my instrumentals to recording artists.

Don't believe the hyped-up videos that make it look like making money online is a walk in the park. There's money to be made online, but it isn't as easy as a lot of the marketers selling information products would have you believe. It takes hard work, more than a little money and a bit of luck to make it online.

Whether or not you're able to do it depends on the quality of your instrumentals and whether you're able to figure out a way to promote them to the right groups of people at a price that's mutually agreeable and allows you to turn a profit.

Keep with your 9 to 5 job, while doing Internet Marketing (part-time).
Once your Internet Marketing (IM) gains momentum, you can start thinking to go full time.

One important thing is to take ACTION.
Don't just learn the IM stuff.

You need to DO IT. Sell something.

You said Take Action. I know this is a good advice. But newbies like me always find it confusing and fearful to take action. There is alot of information on the Internet and I suffer from information overload. How will I take action when I don't trust some of the information provided on the Internet. Before I can take action, I need to find and follow a genuine mentor.

      Regards

If you spend 9 AM to 5 PM for your job, there is no problem. After completing your job, you can do the work in the online marketing. You can take it as a part time work. When you see, that the earning from the online marketing is enough for you, then you can work full time here. I think this way would better for you.

I see a way you can combine passion with a website...(if is actually your passion)

Create an eCommerce website selling what you now sell in your shop, online. Then you can master traffic generation (its own journey - trust me) but you'll have your offline asset with an online presence as well.

And just as easily as people can post hype videos on youtube about MMO you can create videos about your own products and link back to your site.

This could be an easy way to funnel traffic to yourself and gain momentum for exposure.

Once you have that site up a whole world of options opens to you

    Can you make money? Yes.

    Can everyone make money? No.

Starting and continuing a business ANYWHERE is hard, and the online world is gradually getting sophisticated to a place where small business entrepreneurs might find it hard to succeed.

Huge investments, extensive research and smart business acumen is a MUST to make money online today.

9 to 5 job is fine. Start working full-time on your job and working part-time for you fortune. Once you can pay the rent with your part-time online income, scale it up until it reach the same level with your full-time job. If your part-time income is consistent within 6 month to a year, then you can think about quit your day job.

P.S - Don't forget to save some for rainy days too

I have to confess I am a newbie, but have been aware for some time that online is where the money is. But how? I did quite a lot of online research, started down the wrong path numerous times until I finally found a mentor. Honestly if you really want to get started, that is my best advice.

Finding a terrific mentor has provided me with a great start and saved me many months of finding my way. Yes you will need to continue to work fulltime in your current job (There's no get rich quick scheme), but starting online is like any business, you have to build it.

Yes you can, but it's totally in your own hands.

      You need to take action.

You need to focus on one thing and not hop between methods

You need to keep it simple so that you follow through and have enough time to do things

      Do those and you'll succeed.

First off... it's simple but it ain't easy! Easy means push button which doesn't exist in our industry. Simple makes more sense cause you don't need to be a rocket scientist but be ready to bruise your ass to make it to say $10k a month...

You need to make sure you believe in yourself, that you're focused and have a plan of attack to get to where you want to be. These are the basic steps:

    1) Find a product to promote

    2) Have a sales funnel that converts and make sure you have a funded proposal to make money on the front end and break even on your spend. Let the products at the back end of your funnel make you the big paydays

    3) Drive a ton of traffic using free and paid traffic

    4) Rinse and repeat

Don't overcomplicate it... that's all there is to it!

Yes you can make money online but before jumping into this area you have to first analyze your situation carefully. As written above that it is possible to earn good money online but it is not as easy as internet marketer show you.

Before jumping to online thing you have to consider that what you are going for and what kind of skills level you have. Without having any skills you cannot earn good money. From my perspective you have to take following steps to make good money.

      1. Believe in yourself. Check yourself carefully, and see do you really believe that you are capable enough to earn money via online. If you are completely newbie and do not know about online marketing than just study it and than ask yourself that you think that you can do it and if you find yes in your answer than go for it. I saw many people who are successful in offline business but not able to earn good money in online business because internally they does not believe that they can earn good money via online.
      2. What kind of area in IM you are going for. There are many area in IM which are building niche sites, list building, facebook marketing, earning money via writing, making money via youtube etc. So before jumping see what kind of skill level you have which greatly fit with what you are decided to go for.
      3. When you make the decision than just stick to it without jumping on other methods. Make the plan in writing that how you are going towards your goal and make your plan in to do list and start taking action towards it. Just keep your focus on your plan only.
      4. Be adaptable. It is true that you have best plan on earth for your goal but it is also true life happens and you have to make changes in your plan. So be adaptable with your plan but does not change your goal.
      5. Networking. Reaching out and make connection with other internet marketing. Because it helps you to broaden your knowledge base and help you to get good advice. And be sure to give something back to them.

    You need to take action.
I totally agree with taking action. You can and will learn everything that you can If you stick around and see what successful person does and imitate them, but if you fail to take action and focus on all the "What If's" then you will not make any significant change in your situation.

Find a good mentor or just study carefully. There's a lot of things here that you can start teaching yourself.

First of all, completely forget about making money. Money is just a bi-product of giving value. Giving as much value as possible should be your absolute only focus. Give free value and Sell valuable information. That's it. Ask yourself, what value can you give the world that I know they will want and want to pay for? Value, making money, authority are all just a property of success.

do this (Give Value) and Get this (Money). Equal exchange of value, simple

  • Yes, many of us hate our jobs and decide to dive into the world of internet marketing. It is not as easy as all the hype out there makes it sound. But it is also not as hard as going to work everyday at a job you hate either. You just gotta focus on something you like doing online and you can be successful. You might try many things before you hit upon something for you but if that's what it takes then do whatever it takes to finally be able to quit that job. I am working on the same thing.

You're VERY late to the game, my friend. Selling instrumentals was big between 2004-2007 but today that's a dry well. There are other ways to capitalize on music and your musical talents...but selling instrumentals isn't one of them...not anymore.

This is somewhat off topic, but this quote made me wonder, is there such a thing as PLR music similar to PLR words/writing? Like music you can sell in packages that people can use as background music for their videos or podcasts or whatever. Maybe the OP can do something like that.

If you are brand new to make money online, than you are going to go through a big learning curve prior to you making any sales. Making money online is possible, and you can quit your job if you are persistent and determined enough. It's important to find a niche you are passionate about and a niche that is evergreen. There is no overnight success, push button in the real world. It's just like any other business except for it being online. My recommendation to you is to study Internet Marketing from people who you feel you can trust and if you have the money get a coach, and take massive action. If you are brand new as explained, this business takes work, and their is no promises here. IF you stay committed you will follow through, don't get discouraged if it takes time it is all a learning process and it will take time to implement. Don't get discourage by people telling you how easy it is yet you are failing. The real truth is it does take hard work, and dedication if you really want to be successful online.

I advice you stay put with your normal 5 to 9 hrs job until you get
    your online business breakthrough.

Forget about those make-money-quick hype you are watching on
videos.Online business is more or less the same thing as the offline
business thing. The fact is both of them takes time and effort to work.

However, the big difference between offline business and online business
is that the later has more leverage and a wider market, audience.

You will definitely make it if only you can be focused.

    Best wishes,
    -Azuka Ozegbe.

The question you should be asking yourself is:

"How can I make a full time living online?"

"What do I need to do to make this become a reality?"

It's going to take time, hard work and organization. And you are going to run into more than your fair share of setbacks. But if you stick with it and work at it every day with purpose, you are going to find that simply replacing your 9 to 5 income is just going to be the beginning to something even bigger.

There have already been a lot of great contributions to this thread.
What I would like to add is simply that building any successful business takes effort and dedication. Focus on doing the right things by taking the advice given and you'll achieve the results you're looking for. Always remember that there are no shortcuts to be taken.
While I can appreciate the fact that you hate your job, most people do as well. Use that as motivation to stay focused and never lose sight of your goal.
    All the best!!

To really make money online is to get into an area or niche where thousands of people are coming online every month to solve real life problems.

You can make money by presenting solutions (products) to their real life problems for a price that will cover the cost of getting people as customers. That is not as easy as it sounds.

'Online Marketing' is a specific niche where loads of people are coming online to try to solve their real life problems. You are of course a good example.

You also mentioned you sell musical instruments. Are you implying you want to make money online selling your instruments? If your answer is 'yes' I have no clue how to make money in that niche.

If however you want to really be successful in the 'online marketing' niche (that is quit your job in about 12 months) my suggestion is as follows:

    1. Take a highly recommended training course in online marketing.

    2. Get a trustworthy mentor or coach to guide you especially in the early stages. Make sure that person is interested in YOUR success and not simply looking to make money from unsuspecting beginners coming online.

    Hello akwis,
Do not let people fool you. IM is extremely simple but it is NOT easy.

Those can be two different things.

The business Models to follow in IM are pretty straight forward. If you work hard and diligently and put the time in, then you will make a full time Living doing it .

Not a matter of 'if' but just a matter of 'when'

Keep your 9-5 job and invest on your IM.

Beware of the word INVEST. You can easily spend lots of money

Would you consider listing your music on one of the digital music sites such as Amazon mp3? In this way, your music would be out there on an international platform for people to find and then you woujld only need to drive traffic to those sales pages.

I imagine that you're working a job now - on the side of your business. This is fine. Simply use a portion of the money that you earn at work to invest into your business. Yeah you can make enough money to quit your 9-5, just don't expect it to happen within the next 90 days - especially if your advertising budget is online a few hundred dollars a month. By the way i would probably change the niche, and go into something that is wayy easier.

  • Akwis2,

I think you should keep your job. You'll need money coming in for your day to day expenses while you learn things that can help with your online business. Plus:

You'll need money for advertising; and

If you don't have enough time to work on your online business or to learn necessary things that may be unfamiliar to you at the moment, such as tech-related things, then you can always outsource to qualified service providers who can do the tasks that you need done each day, and of course -- You need money to hire these service providers for a monthly contract and / or a per-project contract...

Yes you can make enough money online to quit your 9-5 job.

But only if you treat your online venture like another job.

If you treat it like a hobby or just dabble at most, you will be stuck in your 9-5

Can you make enough money to quit your 9 to 5?

    Of course you can.

A little bit of advice though. Don't decide to quit your JOB until you're consistently making 3X what you make at your job.

Making money online will boil down to 3 things:

Finding a market full of hungry buyers
    Getting them on a list
    Mailing them offers

    It's really that easy.

Yes it is true but it will take some time to get to that point. You should continue to work with your 9 to 5 job while building up you internet marketing business on the side. Set a number goal for yourself to work towards. Many say once they reach $100 a day mark continuously they will quit. Whatever your mark is set it and work towards it.

Yeah. You'll probably put in more hours online than you will working to make a good living tho. I think the big difference is that you could make 10 times more money online with the right product/right audience

Like majority of people's advice here, do not quit your 9-5 job, most especially if you haven't really making a good amount of money online. Think wisely my friend, reality bites.

Yes the ability to earn enough money is available working online IF... and that's a big if...

You are sitting on top of the pyramid, which means you are the owner or got in at the very ground floor.

You've already got a great tool to drive you to take action - you hate your 9-5 job. You just have to leverage that pain to drive you to take action every single day.

Yes, it is possible and one good example is Pat Flynn of smartpassiveincome blog. Takes hard work, determination, perseverance and definitely no "Push Button" ways to instant riches over night online.

Making money online isn't easy - but it's not impossible either. If you're willing to work hard then yes, you can make money; a lot of money. But you need the right method and the right business model. Keep your 9-5 job and work on your business part-time until you figure out what works and what doesn't.

Actually as you are a newbie here, it is not easy to earn a handsome amount of money from this sector. It you have enough knowledge, then you can earn a good amount of money. Here I would like to suggest you, you should not leave from the job suddenly. You can work in this sector as a part time. When you will see, you are earning a good money, then you can resign from the job. Thanks.
