How about BlueHost...? I've been using them for a while now and they seems ok.

Personally, I prefer a WHM account for all of my domains, since I have a few "clients". I'm with Webhostinbuzz.com and am happy with them, but always looking for something better. I tried HG, but they don't do WHM and I was not happy with the performance of their servers - I won't ever go back.

I use wwkiosk.com and I host about ten websites with them and they´ve got exelent support system.

You only pay $1 your first month and then $44. It´s a bit price but you get 70Gb of webspace and a good autoresponder. Also website templets, training and a lots more.

Dreamhost is among the best out there. You can bet
your shillywigs on that.
I use them for my graphic design services and no problems
whatsoever.

I've used a bunch of hosting services.

I switched over to HostMonte.com (a new company but merged from an old large company that ran for 5 years). They work closely with the clients and you can talk to the owner

They're also one of the biggest.

You can find negative threads and sites about every single host. I wonder how many of them are created by their very own competition and not actual people?

Don't believe everything you read on the Interwebs!

I know the people in the first two links and heard from them first hand about the shear stupidity that Dreamhost put them through. All-In-One SEO WordPress plugin a spamdexing tool? Please! What kind of idiots do they have in their support department?

I've tried a number of other hosting sites but like Hostgator the best, it's the best bang for the buck.

Just remember a few key things to consider:
1) 64 MB of memory required for Wordpress and other CMS's to work correctly with lots of plug-ins installed
2) Daily backups of EVERYTHING - all your websites, all your files, all your eMails, and all your mySQL databases

That 64 MB limit is a killer, some hosting sites only support 32 MB and you then get crazy errors that take days to track down - only to realize that you must move to a hosting site that supports 64 MB of memory. You might run fine for months and then a plug-in is a memory hog and all kinds of problems start to show up.

I backup, each morning, about 100 websites on the ONE Hostgator - it sends me an eMail when finished (about 10 minutes) and I download to my hard drive - EVERY DAY! I keep a special external hard drive that I place the backups on and rotate this hard drive with one at my bank's safety deposit box. I rotate these hard drives once a week. Each supports 1 terabyte and I have months of backups on each - just in case I need to recover something later.

This is my livelihood now and I'm not going to be held hostage by some high school kid with hygiene problems who loves to destroy other peoples' websites.

Good luck

Hello Warriors,

Never have used hostgator so I guess it depends on what your hosting needs are. I will say if you're an IM'er or plan to be than you should check out GVO. It's got all the tools every online marketer needs in addition to the hosting.

I will never use hostgator ever again.

I am now vehemently opposed to the them and am more than happy to spread the word about their putrid practices and horrible customer service.

The amount of crap they have put me through in the last 2 days has completely destroyed a chunk of my online business as well as my families sites that I have hosted on my multiple hostgator accounts which have now all been suspended.

What happened?

I woke up one morning to find that all my websites under one of my accounts had been suspended due to a charge back that had been issued by my credit card company. As an internet marketer I hate chargebacks and would never initiate one unless I had exhausted all other options with the company themselves.

So as you can imagine I was very shocked to find that this had happened. I contacted my bank and they advised that there had been no refunds or chargebacks made on my credit card whatsoever.

I advised hostgator of this as well as requested they move my money sites from the server in question over to one of my other hostgator servers. Instead of doing this, they responded to my email advising that they had suspended ALL my accounts on hostgator and would not unsuspend any accounts until they recieved a letter from my bank advising them of the situation.

This could take weeks and I am losing a ton of money every day now as well as not having access to my backups or anything.

BEWARE of Hostgator if you value your business. I'm glad I have learned this lesson now and will be vigilant in scrutinizing my next hosting company as well as using my own backup techniques daily.

They have lost a good long term customer now and I will take many more from them when I'm finished spreading the word.

'nuff said.

Back in the game!

Okay, you're upset because HostGator won't let you use a coupon?

I have to be honest, if you're happy with their service, that's not a good reason to want to make a switch.

In my honest opinion, looking for low-cost hosting is a HUGE mistake. Hire the best hosting company you can afford.

I learned this the hard way with more than one hosting company... if your sites aren't online, then they can't make you any money. Plain and simple.

The absolute worst hosting company, I've ever hired was Dreamhost. LOUSY.

Lousy support and don't even use a standard Cpanel. They "accidently" charged my credit card for another year of service just 3 months into having the account (they did refund it after I complained).

I had DAILY outages... something that can happen real easy with companies that really oversell their hosting capacities as "unlimited". Email problems too, usually 1-2X/day.

The part that really angered me was when WordPress issued a security alert about hackers hitting their software. All of my other sites, it was a one-click upgrade.

Not Dreamhost.

I contacted their tech support asking them for help as they didn't have an option in their Cpanel to upgrade the WordPress. They told me I had to update it manually myself and don't bother to contact them about it again! Needess to say, I moved the few sites I had on their hosting and cancelled the account.

As for HostGator... they might be the most popular host... but they usually have at least one new thread in the WF each week where someone is venting about a problem with them. Some of their terms of service rules like suspending your account if you go over on your bandwidth are just plain silly IMHO. Any other hosting company would just charge you for the overage... not close your account and lose you as a customer.

So who do I recommend and use?

LiquidWeb by a landslide.

They aren't the cheapest but they are the very very very best. Typical response time for tech support has been 15 minutes. My VPS with them has gone down once in the past year and that was for about 10 minutes.

Here's a great example of how awesome their support is: One of my blogs got hit by a trojan attack a few weeks ago and taken offline by their actions. I was locked out of that account as well.

LiquidWeb unlocked the account... changed the password to a new, more secure one and emailed the new password to me... restored my blog, including the database with all of the previous posts... put some additional files I had on that site in a separate folder so I could download them if I needed them or could just delete the folder if I didn't need the files... restored a second non-WordPress database and the program linked to that database which was also on the same site... verified everything was trojan-free too.

And they did it all within 2 hours of my initial tech support request.

BTW, they automatically backup all of your sites... something many hosting companies don't do b/c they don't want to use the extra resources backing up customer sites.

That's why you'll periodically read a thread started by someone who had a site crash... they didn't have a current backup and neither did their host.

LiquidWeb gets my highest recommendation as a hosting company. Again, they aren't cheap but they are the very best IMHO.

Hope that helps,

Mike

Thanks. Spent a few minutes on LiquidWeb and have 2 questions:

1) I need 64 MB of work area for each WP website - have 100+ of them on one account

2) Need to back up files, mySQL, and eMail daily.

I use Hostgator now without any problems and backup daily with one click and download to my hard drive with another click. (1 GB daily)

Can LiquidWeb do this too?

Thanks for any info.

Hi Bjourne,

I user GVO hosting because they've been very reliable to my 26 websites. GVO has
it comes with an autoresponder, competition witness, free email bulk mailing support, your own conference room and video streaming and 24/7 support, but even better as your marketing business grows, you can upgrade to a dedicated server.

Eric,

Looks like they will but you'd need at least a VPS plan with them. They also offer a 1 TB RAID backup on a different data and a seperate continous offsite backup plan. There's a bunch of additional optional add-ons under the dedicated hosting plan options which would meet your needs.

I don't recommend putting 100+ sites on any one plan with any hosting provider because if that server ever needs to go offine (even for routine maintenance) then your entire online business is offline. Compared to offline office space, hosting plans are dirt-cheap. I have several hosting plans to spread out all of my sites that way if one company ever has a major server issue, my entire online business doesn't get hammered.

BTW... I hadn't looked at their salesletter in quite some time. They are now offering 100% uptime for all of their plans with a 10X refund policy if your plan is done more than 30 minutes or they fail to answer a support ticket within 30 minutes.

Details are here: https://www.liquidweb.com/services/heroicsupport.html

Hope that helps,

Mike

I'm with Razztek on this one. I also prefer to have a WHM account. I did not know that HG did not have one as I as thinking about switching from Bluehost to them. guess I will look elsewhere.

Bluehost does not offer a reseller account, but you can point all your domains to a common Cpanel account - good for many people.

I have another account, which is a reseller account with WHM that I love, but I think it's through a sub-seller and am trying to figure out who the main hosting company really is. Also with this hosting package I get my own name servers.

There are thousands of better hosts than HostGator.

HostGator can be good, but people seem to think they are the best in the World ("THEY OFFER UNLIMITED SPACE AND BANDWIDTH LOL!!!!" etc), which isn't all that accurate.

WebHostingTalk.com is a great forums to find some great, non-extreme-overselling hosts.

(And yes, people, there is no such thing as unlimited disk-space and bandwidth!)

I use compitenthosting.com and they have a Halloween Special right now that you can get their Ultra Plan for only $5.00 per year and the Ultimate Plan for only $15.00 per year. PM if you want the discount coupons. They also have a few Reseller Plans on Discount let me know which one you want cause the coupons are different for each and available to existing customers to giveaway to friends etc or self-use only, so you will not find them on the site.
