Default Does anybody now a better host then Hostgator?

Hi warriors,

I think it's a bit strange. I just wanted to order a new hostpakkage with a new domain. So I went to hostgator because I already have a little website hosted by them. I already have a domain with them so I don't get a coupon discount. I think that is really strange.

So I asked and they told me that coupons are only for new customers. Ok, do you know any good hostproviders?

Thank you
Bjorn

Hi Bjorn,
I have quite a few websites with hostgator and if you are planning to have more than these two, I think a good option is to Upgrade to a Reseller Account which allows you to have as many sites hosted there as you like.

Might be worth investigating?

Regards

Coupons are used to bring in new customers - many vendors such as check printing companies, cell phone and ISP providers have special rates for new customers only. It's not unusual.

I have an HG reseller account - and highly recommend it. You wouldn't want that for one or two sites - but if you plan to add multiple sites, it's a good deal.

I've been using Hostmonster. They're cheap, have CPanel and their instant chat support is excellent.

Hi

I am with Hostgator. But before that I used in a few years
Pagematic. The owner or at least co-owner is also the
developer of VarPro. They had always super support and
uptime was top notch.

I use Hostgator and love them. You might want to be careful using smaller hosting companies. I have heard a few horror stories where companies have closed and took their websites with them. Just an FYI.

You could also try 50webs.

I've been with Dreamhost since November 2000 after trying many other hosts (I've been doing this since late 1996) and I've been really happy with them. I have some coupon codes if you want to PM me for them.

I tried Hostgator, just to see what all the talk was about and wasn't impressed really. Dreamhost was much better in all respects, and I usually recommend them specifically to people who are first-time hosters because it's so easy to use and they do a great job of holding your hand through setup and any issues or questions that arise.

Hope that helps,

Jen Knox

I know someone who has a lot of websites that uses dreamhost.

I use BlueHost which is essentially the same as HostMonster. But I believe HostMonster's chat support and customer far exceed the norm. They are always up front about any issues, and don't beat around the bush. I have even considered moving from BlueHost to HostMonster.

Nobody likes to talk good about Godaddy, but I have 26 sites hosted with them and I have never had a problem. I like their control panels, and they have good around the clock customer support.

I've been hosting with them for years and I recommend them to everyone I know. I have a friend that has around 40-50 sites hosted on thier $6.95 a month plan no problem... forums, directories, portals, sales pages. He's never had an issue.

I've hosted with a couple other hosts in the past and I highly prefer GoDaddy.

What package do you currently have with them? I have a reseller account, but all of their packages (except for the intro package) allow for unlimited sites on one account.

I would upgrade on Hostgator. I pay $15/mnth (they have plans that are less that still have unlimited domains), and it isn't a reseller acct, and I host unlimited domains on that one account. You don't need a separate acct for each domain. Just use the Add on Domains in the cpanel to add on a new domain.

Been using DreamHost for about 8 years now. Highly recommend!

  • Their support is usually excellent. They have a blog page where they discuss every hardware issue and users can comment, so they really try to be transparent and not hide things from their users, or lie.
  • I'm hosting over 50 domains for $9.95/month.
  • Unlimited domains, disk space, bandwidth, email, databases...everything you'd ever need
  • The 1-click install apps are great
  • The admin interface is easy-to-use (makes GoDaddy's look like it was designed by an infant)
  • Once and a while my sites are a bit slow or go down but that's normal with every shared host. Eventually I'll be upgrading to a dedicated server.

Host gator is the best out there. Also, did you know that you can have as many domains on it as you want? All the bandwidth you need and the customer support is awesome. If you need help with them, jut call them they are excellent.

I host all of my domains on HostGator. Also, if you want to make your money back from using them, they have an affiliate program. Every time someone buys hosting from them after following your affiliate link, they pay you $50.00 up front. Pretty sweet deal.

So, just take your new domain and get into your hostgator account. YOu will see an icon that says add on domains. Simply add your domain. don't forget to change your server were you originally bought your domain.

Hope this helps.

Most businesses that have coupons offer them to new customers only. HG is about the best general host to use and using another to save on the first month payment seems silly to me.

HG has multiple prices - listed on the site. I use reseller plans with them.

Hi Bjorn,

You mentioned that you had an issue with not being able to use a coupon. They generally only save you a few dollars anyway. If keeping your costs down by a few dollars is that important, you could consider having your stuff hosted for free. There a lots of places to do that which are discussed here in the WF.

regards,
James Pateman

I have been having some trouble lately with hostgator. They have been shutting down some of my WP sites lately because they claim that they have been taxing the server. (even with the super cache plugin installed.) they recently did that to a site that suddenly was getting traffic (more than normal). I have a couple dozen sites with hostgator but I'm seriously considering going elsewhere for new sites.

Hey Bjorn,

Don't take this the wrong way, but you might be putting the cart before the horse here, don't you think?

You've not expressed any dissatisfaction with your Hostgator account other than not getting what amounts to a small discount - is it really worth leaving a "Known" good host for an unknown one?

This is especially true if you're accustomed to using cPanel for example...quite a few of the hosting services mentioned in this thread use their own management systems, which can take getting used to for a novice.

That said, for the price, the service and support is top notch - especially so for the non-technical folks out there.

I strongly suggest you avoid Dreamhost. They pay a very nice affiliate fee which is why people promote them a lot but check out these unhappy customers...

I've used UltimateMarketingCenter and I have always liked their service.
As long as you do not deal with a clearly incompetent host, it is your sites that make the difference, I would say...

I use HostGator and if you get the baby account you can have as many domains as you want...

If you are looking to spread your hosting package across multiple hosts to get as many C class Ips as possible, then you can consider cheap hosts that allow one domain to be hosted for less than $2 a month.

My advice is to get over the coupon thing and stick with a winner. I have 2 dedicated servers and a reseller server with HG. I've tried the rest and HG is the best.

But I feel your pain. I received a $100 AdWords coupon in the mail last week. I logged into my acocunt and entered the coupon, only to be told that my account was too "old" to use the coupon :-(
