Hey there,

hope you´re doing well today!

To my question:
A visitor on my site clicks on a affiliate link with my tracking id. He is on the site (e.g. Amazon) where he could buy it

BUT

the visitor dont want to buy it now, he would like to get more information about the product from another site online.

He googles it: product + review and founds a site which reviews this product an has her own affiliate link .

What I know is, that a cookie will be safed local on his hard drive if he gets reffered by me. But now he is clicking on another affiliate link which isnt from me. Which one get the sale if he buys the product? I or the other one?

Thanks for your answer!

Best regards,
Peter

im fairly sure if they click on someone else's affiliate link after's yours they get the credit... after all they are the ones who send the customer in the end game.

I think you have to refer to the affiliate program terms, since there are many ways cookies work:

First Click - The first cookie set in a given browser gets credit for the referral (until it expires) <- I think this scenario is what lends itself to cookie stuffing.

Last Click - The last cookie set in a given browser gets credit for the referral (until it expires).

Session Limited - The last cookie set in a given browser gets credit for the referral until the current session is closed. This is similar to Amazon's 24 hour cookies, with a generally shorter period.

Lifetime Referrer - Once initial credit has been given for the referral, all future transactions by the customer are automatically credited to the original referrer, regardless of how they arrived on the sales page.

I think you want Lifetime Referrer to solve the issue

It depends on the affiliate program. Some programs allows the cookies to stay in the buyer's internet browser for a few days to a month.
