Best hosting for a membership site? shared vs reseller.

Ok so I am creating a membership site very soon,

I'll have (estimated based on my current audience) about 3000-4000 page views/day

its gonna be both video and text intensive. The video will be from youtube and self hosted.

So my question is this.

Would moving from a shared hosting to a resell hosting account offer any benefits?

Would there be any speed improvements and things of that nature?

I will only have about 3 websites in the foreseeable future.

Im just having a hard time seeing the benefits of a resller hosting account. please help.

I think it's just best to check your cpu usage at the moment.

If you see it's increasing then it's best to just get your own server, because reseller won't be very helpful in that area. A VPS should be fine i guess.

Just don't try to risk that you have a lot of members and your hosting company disables your account, it happens...

Depends if you're going to host videos on your membership site. If not, shared hosting will probably be OK; otherwise, a VPS might be your best solution. That's what I did, anyway.

Actually, the hosting provider will have no bearing on video load speeds in this case. Because in all likelihood, the video files will be too large and too bandwidth-intensive to host server-side. Especially with that kind of traffic.

If you're using video, you'll want to use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) like Amazon S3/CloudFront to host all of your static content.

In terms of shared hosting vs VPS, simply check with your hosting company how easy/difficult it would be to upgrade from your shared account to a VPS. If it's a relatively simple process that won't result in more than a few minutes of downtime, then you can start with shared hosting and upgrade once the members are coming in.

If you're sure that this membership site will have a large member base from the very beginning, then you can upgrade to VPS preemptively to avoid any issues.

One caution: don't install a caching plugin. Caching plugins don't play nice with membership plugins. If you're really worried about load speeds (I wouldn't be), you *could* use a caching plugin depending on your membership script.

But you have to know how to configure it properly.
