Hey! How do I contact a company regarding making articles and SEO work for them? What should I say and how should I put it?

Please keep in mind that I do not have any portfolios with past work!

I can make banners, basic SEO work, articles and different kind of just basic knowledge stuff!

take a piece of advice from the laws of power... when trying to get someone to do something for you, remind him of what he stands to gain.

I think you should work in any freelancing market place. You can make anything as you can. then show as your work experience. Then the customer will understand, that you will be able to do this work.

  • Enter your search query in Google like SEO Service provider, you will find a list of companies with portfolio and cost structure.

Your questions is basically asking us to tell you how to run your business. If you don't know what you're doing, why run a business? It also tells us you're not interested in actually doing any learning, rather you want to be spoon-fed.

The OP just mentioned that he has nothing to show, at the moment - hence his problem.

You almost certainly need to rectify that, before you start, because it's what all your competitors have done, and you'll be at a huge disadvantage if you haven't.

Fortunately, it's very easily resolved: all you need is a little 2-3-page blog (which you can even put up on free hosting, somewhere like freehostia.com or byethost.com, if money's an issue), including a couple of decent testimonials which you can gather by doing free or very-low-priced work for a couple of people, just to get started.

When I first started, the most effective way to do this is to honestly meet a business owner in person face to face. Especially if you live in a city. This is what I did. I honestly went through the business directory of the yellow book, called businesses that had websites, and asked if I can set an appointment to meet them in person to see if can give them a free consultation on optimizing their website.
Business owners rather meet someone in person because they will know that they are not giving money to someone that they do not personally know that may run with their money.
Everytime I have done this in person, I tend to get a new client from 1 out of 3 appointments that were set. This takes a lot of work and time, but if you end up with 5-10 clients, and you do a good job, than you will have your work cut out for you.

Thank you guys for the response, the thing is I am experienced with SEO and I know how to make HQ logos and further on, but I've only done these stuff for fun like a hobby, but I am not good at the contact part via E-mail, my idea is like this.

    1. Contact tons of small business and ask them if they need any of my services quite cheap so I can build a portfolio and get my reputation higher

but the problem I am having is I dont know what to write on the email, how to make it look like I am somewhat quite professional, try to make them believe that what I have is a must-have for their company.

I get all sorts of sales people contacting me all the time. The thing most have in common is that the action they are trying to get me to take is a phone call -- usually a 15-minute phone call -- because they know that I'm not going to buy anything based on an email.

      Here's one example:

      Hi NAME,

At XXXXX, we're very good at proving people are who they say they are.

We do this by linking your customer's online and offline identity.

For example, here's the Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter profile of the person who is currently making a purchase at your online store.

You now have a complete unified profile of your customer, not just pieces of transactional data.

Happy to run an online demo for you NAME if there is interest?

      Cheers,

      NAME
      Here's another:

      Hi NAME,

I hope you don't mind me reaching out, but I think my company XXXXXX could be a huge help to your donation efforts. We've had a lot of success with other nonprofits, so I figured I'd let you know a little on what we do.

XXXXX helps nonprofits reduce payments processing costs while increasing conversion rates. We allow nonprofits to accept ACH payments online for just $0.18/transaction (saving 90% in comparison to Credit Cards/PayPal) and end users simply login to their online banking to make a payment. XXXXX can automatically fill in additional information for the donor, so the checkout process is one of the fastest around while reducing cart abandonment.

Finally, I'd love to chat if you think this is something you seem fit. Let me know if we could possibly set up a 10-15 minute if you'd be interested in hopping on the phone.

      Best,

      NAME
The best ones show that they've researched my company enough to know:
      1. Something -- anything -- about what we do
      2. That the product they're selling is actually relevant to us
For instance, it's obvious that the first writing thought we did e-commerce, when what we actually do is affiliate marketing. And the second writer thought we were a non-profit, when actually we're a for-profit social enterprise (which is to say that we do have a strong social mission, but we are incorporated as a for-profit business).

Needless to say neither of the two salespeople quoted got that 15 minute phone call they wanted -- not because of the quality of their messages to me, but because it was obvious that if they knew nothing about me, they had no idea how or if what they were selling would work for me.

All that aside, before I agree to talk to anyone -- and I (very) occasionally do -- I always check out their website and/or portfolio to make sure that it's worth 15 minutes of my time to talk to them. So as Alexa said, that's definitely something you should put some effort into.

        Here's another idea.

Instead of doing a "spray and pray" campaign begging to do cheap work to establish yourself, consider doing some free work for a charity or other community-based non-profit.

Not only will you get what you need for case studies and a portfolio, and building up some serious karma points by doing good in the community. you'll get to rub elbows with businesspeople in a non-business setting. How would you like to be able to send something like this:

        Hey, Jim,

Atok here. Just got the latest rankings for the food bank campaign. We went from #27 to #3 since the campaign started.

Jim, while I was online checking our rankings, I took a look at yours. And I believe I could do you some good. I don't want to try and stuff everything in this email, so is there a time we could sit down for 15-20 minutes and I could show you what I found?

Either way, I'll see you at the next meeting of the food bank committee, so we can start planning the campaign for the fall food drive.

        Regards,

        Atok
Think that might work better than a blind email from a stranger begging to work for peanuts?

Hello Alok! Well you can try reaching out local businesses in your area. Meet them face-to-face so that you'll somewhat be able to win their trust and offer them your service (for free & cheaper rate) and do your best to convince them why SEO is badly needed for every businesses (you can state some advantages). Or you can also do a "charity" work for non-profit organizations for the sake of gaining a good reputation.

Whether you decide to use a freelancing marketplace, or place cold calls ... you'll want to check out "The SPIN Selling Fieldbook." It's a great guide to how to close more complex or higher-priced sales ... such as the consulting and services you want to offer them. It can be found on Amazon.com.

You can work in any freelancing market. They will search on these market, if they need. On the other hand, if you make offer yourself to them, they treat as you have no work. If your work is good, many company will offer to work for them. It will be better for you.

In your approach, you should point out a problem they may have and offer a solution. Sounds pretty simple but the key is to make your solution sound like the piece they've been missing. Show them what they stand to gain by signing up for your services. Show them the potential customers and most importantly the money because we all know that many decisions come down to the "bottom line".
