Promoting online and offline services?

Hi,

what is the best way to get traffic for website with online and offline computer services?
It´s a small company, they are starting now with small website without much content.
They just want to get traffic to their landing page or homepage, where they offer their services.

They want to do PPC, ads in Craigslist and they are looking for other traffic sources.
In long term they want to create content, special reports, videos, etc.

But it will take 6 months or more and they are looking for other ways, what else could they do here and now without any content, where could they promote their services.
They cannot advertise at elance etc., they are not cheap freelancers. Are there similar websites where serious companies can advertise?
Thanks

Without knowing the specifics of what sort of "online and offline computer services" being offered I would say that PPC can certainly be a great way to start. Craigslist might have some results as well, but I'm kind of biased against that if you're looking for "serious" clients willing to spend money.

Your best bet would be to focus on very specific services offered by this company and define their target customer. Then, in addition to using that for your PPC keyword strategy you could simply pick up a phone book and contact these potential customers directly if they're a business.

If you're targeting individual consumers then I'd say you've got your work cut out for you in an industry like that, but there are online business review sites that you can be sure the company has a listing posted for. Also, don't forget social media and be sure they have a good social media presence especially for sites like LinkedIn where you can more easily find business clients that are heavy computer users willing to spend money on services.

Are these clients of yours into SEO? Or, is it some other type of 'computer services' involved as you mentioned Freelancer. So I'm just guessing SEO related.

Whatever your clients are freelancing, you can find your best 'online' customers via forums. But, you have to take time to really become part of the community and establish yourself as a helpful member before others will start taking you seriously. Over time, people will start checking out your blog (or your client's site) and making inquiries via PM on that forum. This is true for any forum you are posting at. Don't just spam it with a link and run off, take time to get to know people there and help them out. That should translate into real traffic to any page you link to.

Thanks for your tips, we will try them out.

It´s not SEO, it´s about setting up computer networks for small companies, choosing the right software for CRM, accounting, installing the software, etc. They did it as employees for 5 years, now they are starting their own company. One part of their business should be online coaching and other services which could be done online.

The problem with PPC for them is there are not many clicks for B2B and they are too expensive for testing the landing page, the ads etc.

Later it should be no problem, because they can make good profits through ongoing services and longterm relationships with customers, so they dont need many visitors.

But they want to start somehow, get customers, test their campaigns etc. Maybe some paid ads and directories where they could promote their services directly. Do you know some other ways to get this kind of traffic, free and paid?
How could they find companies on internet and approach them directly? Should they make first some specific free offer for some specific industry and approach so many companies in the industry as possible?

I think you're on the right track with your last sentence. They should try to target a specific industry through which they can quickly replicate their services and gain recognition as experts. In a service like that your best bet would be to approach some ideal target clients and offer some deep discounts just for the opportunity to prove themselves and develop a case study as well as get valuable testimonials and referrals.

Non-profits, churches and educational institutions can be good places to offer free or discounted services because all of the people involved will help tremendously with word of mouth promotion and many of them may be decision makers in businesses that could turn into clients. I wouldn't make it a habit though as at some point they need to make money, not be a charity.

As far as internet marketing goes sometimes the offline methods can still be your best options, but if you augment them with online methods such as social media it will help a lot. LinkedIn can help them discover and target company decision makers who volunteer at any non-profits they're doing discounted work for. General word of mouth referrals from clients and other contacts will be helped if they can easily find your company's facebook page or other social media to like and share with their friends.

A short video series of helpful computer tips posted to their YouTube channel can help drive tons of traffic especially if you target certain keywords related to that industry.

As far as paid or free online traffic goes this can be tough. For Bing/Adwords PPC there are TONS of keyword combinations that could potentially work for IT companies. You just need to find a good keyword research tool and come up with the thousands of potential keywords and then begin to whittle away at it until you have a manageable targeted list. With a low budget this could be restrictive, but then again a low budget makes any kind of advertising restrictive. Your best bet with free and cheap methods are to do what I recommended above. Also, it sounds like most of their big money initially will come from actual hands-on implementation of services for local clients rather than online coaching. I would strongly recommend they start with that to get a solid footing and then expand to the online coaching when they have the money to run more aggressive online advertising. Starting out they should join every local networking organization they can join and get to know as many local business owners as possible and offer a special deal for their first few clients. Hope this helps.

Definitely go with FB as a starting point since you can really narrow down target audiences for the ads. I do not have any specific experience but it might be worth looking into what LinkedIn has to offer. While not a B2B marketplace a lot of B2B connections are made there. With any luck you can get some geographical or other variables involved in targeted ads.

    Best of Luck!!!
