When I took action this week. Facebook ad + affiliate. (results)

Hey guys,

I've been "in" IM for a while now, but like a lot of people here (I suspect) I never took action all that often. I've had a price comparison site which has been chugging away making quite a bit of money based mostly on a promotion I did one day a year last Feburary, but after that I never really did much. (Including repeating the massively successful promotion day, and improving the conversion).

Instead I've been reading and learning, and having a LOT of ideas.

I include this background because, well, I'm sure a lot of people are in similar situations.

Anyway, I took action this week, and I thought I'd share the highs and lows.

(Please note, this isn't a success story. It just details an attempt / learning curve.)

I went to themeforest.net and bought a wordpress theme for $20, and then set it up, and bought it a domain -- The Attraction Adventure

I then wrote stuff drawn roughly from my memories back in the day trying to make it seem very *real*, and very honest. And I cut a video which is essentially just buying an affiliate product.

Notice that I have a normal link and then say "or you could click THIS SUSPICIOUSLY LARGER LINK and I get a few bucks back for recommending it, even though I don't even have it yet :p, lol." <----------- builds trust.

Then I went onto Facebook and tried to buy some advertising. Clickthroughs are horrible on facebook, and they're really harsh about their ads, they reject more than any source I know.

I thought... "how to get people to click my ad?" -- well, Facebook lets you use an image. I did an image and I included the "+1" new friend icon, and the relationship heart on it, as on Facebook you're trained to pay attention to those icons in the right column -- it draws the eye.

I submitted like 8 variations with the same image, and in a random stroke of luck one got approved... no idea how... lol. Like I say, stroke of luck! I tried to retarget the exact same ad by resubmitting and they wouldn't approve it again.

The advert looks like this:

She's out of your league

[ICONS + PICTURE]

But why? The Attraction Adventure is one man's journey to become attractive to girls. Read it now and learn how to attract women.

I obviously targeted male only and single... that's just the niche I chose...

Anyway, the CTR was 0.16 (which is good for Facebook), giving 56 clicks today at a CPC of $0.38, which maybe isn't all that great. Of people that clicked through, about a third ended up on the site I was promoting from the blog... low indeed, but I am hoping that the added trust by this setup will make the conversion *significantly* higher and offset this.

So... time will tell if this makes any money, but taking action is always a step closer.

However, while I think some aspects of this setup are very clever marketing wise, I think I've made some big mistakes, which will be rectified in my next attempt.

Firstly, I think "become attractive" is too broad, and secondly this is obviously someone else's list if anything... kinda feels like messing with a classic model right there.

Anyway... I guess the aim of this post is... to get you to take action.

Even though I have no idea if this will make money, you can see how I am a step closer. I know some people have trouble relating to the big success stories... so here you can relate to a work-in-progress story, lol.

P.S: Any critique on anything is muchas welcome, I will check my PMs with gusto.

Action is not always about success ... It's about moving ahead, one step at a time... Many people don't take action cuz they equate it to success or failure ... when all they need to do is move ahead, things will eventually fall in place any way ... Nice post Thanks!

Did you target an age range as well? On Facebook I only target 21+. The teens like to click ads just to do it. For your site you may even want to test 24+ for age.

Good for you on taking action!
