He doesn't want to waste his efforts, meaning he needs to qualify the prospects. Do they already have an app? Can they afford an app? Will they benefit having an app? Is the app a solution they need or just a great idea?

He should be knowledgeable on the statistics for mobile sites, apps and general direction of the industry. This will help him to deflect questions, be intelligent and prepared in general.

Consider now the questions he will hear such as, "why should I buy your app?" Prepared answers are better than giving your prospect the 'deer in the headlights' look.

Knowing nothing about the apps purpose, have him consider his immediate sphere of influence, meaning social circles and business contacts. This will get his feet wet selling, and maybe make a sale. Always ask for leads from everyone he speaks with about his project, meaning ask who might be interested, as outside of our immediate contacts leads will dry up fast.

And tell him not to allow discouragement to stop him...

You can targed Android and iOS users directly using Facebook ads advanced targeting.

I would run a campaign and direct the traffic to a squeeze page which promotes "The App Of The Day" of some kind. Or make it more specific, depending on your niche. Like "Business App of The Day". So they opt in to get the app of the day sent to them via email. Then you can promote other peoples apps to get a commission and promote your own app alongside those other apps.

    Just a thought...
