Does anyone have any advice on how to recruit good affiliates? I have set up my program on shareasale, and so far have 95 affiliates. Those 95 affiliates are sending me a total of less than 5 visitors a day. I am offering an 80% commission, and have professionally designed banner ads, sales page, landing page, etc. I even offer a two-tier commission for referring other affiliates (I think that someone could make a good business out of referring affiliates alone), but I still don't have any good affiliates. What have other people done to get the good affiliates? |

Hi Tim, I do affiliate recruiting and promotion for a living so can try to help. You don't say how long ago you launched your program, but good affiliates are busy and it can take them awhile to get around to joining new programs. It takes at least 90 days to really get an affiliate program up and running and that includes pro-active recruiting. If you just launch on SAS without doing any targeted recruiting you'll get a lot of low end affiliates that won't do much. Many of the good affiliates will wait to join after they see you showing some good EPC numbers. What used to be a good way to recruit and isn't so much any more - but is still worth some time - is posting an announcement on some affiliate forums that allow them. My forum, Digital Point and several others do. You just need to find them and read the rules because they are all different. Hope this helps and best of luck! |

Just to add to the advice above... I've always operated my own affiliate program, and I build my business around my affiliates. Generally there are two messages 1; Buy from me 2: Partner with me and both require a totally different approach 2 tier always works well, I see you've done that already In addition , what I do mainly is that I go the extra mile to ensure that my affiliates are guaranteed the commission... and I sing about this. I try to build my system so that it is not cookie dependent. For example... I encourage a lot of lead generation. For example my store will have a section where people can opt in to get notified about discounts, coupons, special offers etc. and everyone who signs up is automatically locked in to the affiliate who brought him in. There are many ways to do this. One easy way ... Never tried it with SAS, but what I do is grab the referral ID and stick it in all the links inside the emails, so say SAS affiliate link was www.site.com/?affiliateid=222, I'll do it that my link will be something like this inside the email www.site.com/?affiliateid=<variable> and <variable> will always be replaced by that affiliate id who referred that user This way any click will trigger the cookie again so when there is a sale the referral gains the commission I also offer free signup bonus money which can be claimed along with your sales commission... It is always encouraging when you see some money in your account than "0 balance" I also give my affiliates easy to use sales materials... even sometimes allow them a discount code which is only valid if you purchase from that affiliate There are just to many things to do In a nutshell I would say 1: When you tell people to promote for you, give them a good reason to do so other than sharing money with you.. treat them as partners 2: Offer good training materials 3: Keep in touch with them. I look at my affiliate stats, and even contact those not selling to see if I can help boost things. People want to make money, and if you offer to help, you'd be surprised at the energy boost. my 2cents |

I always put all the information in front of them so that they dont need to do very much i.e. google keyword ideas for adwords, images, review ideas etc. I also have a mailing list of subscribers just for affiliates so that when i bring out a new product they know about it first and get it going that way. Many people are put off affiliating the products by the gurus as they feel everyone else is advertising it and that they dont stand a chance so when you do your product invite your testimonial people in to affiliate it as they will have already read a free copy so they will already know how good it is. Go on clickbank check out the top products and see what they offer their affiliates on the grounds of resources and come up with a quality plan of action. kind regards sam |

In addition to what others have said, also provide them with promotional content as well, such as pre-made banners, 125x125 ads, auto-responders, articles, brandable reports, etc.

true say.. Very important I try to offer as much sales tool variations people can use... Even if you don't do them all at once, Put it on your todo list Every week, add one more sales letter, one more banner etc If you offer multiple products on your site, make it easy for your affiliates to link to just one of the products and promote that, instead of your whole website |

I have now had two "professional" affiliate managers. The first one never recruited a single affiliate and wouldn't ever return my calls (he did call when he wanted me to pay him, that was very nice of him ). The second has recruited about 30 affiliates, who in total have sent me five hits (I will be ending my business with them this week). Based on my experiences so far, I am wondering if there is a "professional" recruiter that will actually promise results, not just nice reports? | |

Good affiliates are not hard to find but are hard to recruit. My approach to finding affiliates has always been - promote your product yourself and let good affiliates notice it. This is because I do not consider myself an affiliate training center. I want affiliates who know what they are doing i.e. have good extensive knowledge of the niche, know how to promote this type of product and already have established channels of promotion of similar products. Your product should either compliment their current product base, or be better (better converting, better commission, etc.) From many affiliates I get a few clicks a day. However each one of my good affiliates (which I only have a handfull) generate several sales per day. Those are affiliates that do bum marketing and those who do PPC. I also was fortunate to get a few people with big lists to notice me and to blast e-mails to their lists. I have never approached anyone. I feel that approaching an affiliate puts you at a disadvantage immediately because a wise affiliate will know how to appreciate a good product. An inexperienced affiliate will not know how to separate good converting products from low-converting. Thus the selection process already works in your favor. |
