Can Anyone get into the "Internet Marketing" business?

Hello Warriors,

I have been pondering if their are only certain individuals that could get involved with internet marketing. Weather it be CPL,CPA,Email,Blogging,ETC. Can anyone get involved or is it a certain individual to become a "marketer" online?

    Oh boy . . . what a question.

Not a bad question - a good one - but what a question.

I'll give you the Cliff Notes for what is about to come: No.

    Extended Cliff Notes:

It takes a certain type of individual, one with an entrepreneurial spirit, one who wants to create and to build, one not afraid of the world firmly sat on their shoulders, one who can work hard and long and well, one who's both a creative soul and yet an analytical soul, and one who can dream and all the while believe that the dream, despite what people tell him, despite what he tells himself, can happen.

I was also thinking something like "What a question, but a good question".

And was wondering if I could say that almost anyone can get into it, but not necessarily successfully? But I agree with GRM's reply just above, anyway.

I must say I do love the feedback. However I do believe every one does possess the entrepreneurial spirit and just needs to find their why. Thank you for opening my eyes even wider then they are.

Only certain individuals should get involved. However, most people who shouldn't aren't self-aware enough to know it.

      Ha! So true.

The great thing about online business is that compared to other businesses, the barriers to entry are very, very low. You don't need a storefront. You don't even need physical products. And it's actually pretty easy to get up a decent website and do a decent job of marketing.

Of course, the bad thing about online business is that there are such low barriers to entry. Everyone and her mother, brother and 23rd cousin can put their hats in the ring. Add to that the outlier stories of people who strike it rich (or at least claim to) and you end up with lots of competition and lots of people who have no business starting a business. And though it's easy to get up a decent website or do a decent job of marketing, it's not easy to build a great website or do a great job of marketing -- and since as with most businesses a small percentage of the top businesses make almost all of the money and since competition is so fierce, "decent" doesn't really cut it.

Certainly anyone can get involved but not everyone is going to succeed and it is not nearly as easy as many will try to sell you that it is. To be successful someone really needs to plan on being a voracious learner and plan to never stop. If you do not like reading or watching educational videos then go ahead and pass. If you do not have any patience and do not want to sweat the details then go ahead and pass.

Learn, apply, measure, test options, repeat from start......

    Best of Luck!

That's simply a question that only the individual can answer.

People who set out to learn the martial arts ask similar questions, once they get involved with the training & begin to learn, they are already doing without realising.

It's only the person on the boundary or the person that cannot overcome their self doubt or insecurities that thinks they cannot achieve success...

Yes, anyone can do it. And I think the low barrier to entry is a good thing.

It gives the laid off construction worker, the divorced single mom, or the retired disabled Vet - a chance to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Think about it. I can't name any other industry where so many people are willing to help others succeed ... even others who could be their present or future competition.

What other industry does that on the level internet marketers do? And this is a baby industry compared to most others. I call that Good Karma Investment.

The low barrier to entry also takes away a lot of people's excuses for not starting a business. Plus, if nothing else it gives a lot of people a nice, safe, low-cost hobby and a chance to e-socialize.

You'd be surprised at how many people have been doing this for years, while making very little money. Why? Because it's fun, helps occupy their time and gives them at least something to hope for. So, the low barrier to entry has its place.

However, I think because of increased competition, rising cost, stronger government regulations, and Google - the thinning process will come. Plus, the barrier to entry will slowly rise. But for now it's come one come all.

      It depends on your WHY???

Why do you want to get in IM?

If you're getting in just for money then you probably will fail for many years until you have a why that is more deeper then that...

You have to be willing to treat this like a business and invest into yourself until you are a true entrepreneur...

No shortcuts you have to work... If you think its just push button your rich you will be disappointed.

If it's all about money then when you don't get it quick you'll either quit or buy every product you see and go broke and fail.

So yes you can get into IM if you have a why more than money and are prepared to invest in yourself and treat this like a business and not look to instantly make money and focus on selling and the core principles on IM...

Yep anyone can do it, but not everyone is successful. However that doesn't mean you shouldn't try. I often see experienced IM's putting posts riddiculing newbies, but what they fail to remember is that they were a newbie once.

Outside of rare cases like trying to become a competition bodybuilder when you are unable to exercise due to severe bodily injuries … anyone can do just about anything. You can take the steps to change your knowledge, skills, work ethic, and other areas that influence if you will succeed … in ways that are more beneficial to achieving your goal.

Often, this process is made faster by having a mentor or guide. Whether that is in person, over the internet or through their books, courses, and other materials. As it saves time over learning from the school of "Hard Knocks."
