Hi

I'm paying for a website designer to help build my website. I pretty new to IM. I wanted your guys opinion on what is better to have, a wordpress template designed and than use wordpress to build my site or to have a complete php built website. What is easier in terms of running the site. Also what is better in the long run....reliability wise?

Thanks!
Rob

WordPress every time. There are probably millions of themes, both paid and free that you can use to have your site look different.

You don't want to go the customized coding route, try and stick to as much 'out of the box' as you can. Otherwise, you're gonna be held captive. I know this game after having been in it

Wordpress - then choose either Genesis or Thesis.

It will be a pain to learn either one - but there's a ton of help online - and both of these theme frameworks are built for raw speed, and can be freely adapted to create just about any look you want in a website.

Since you have a website designer - he's probably already working in one or the other...

In fact, Wordpress editing is simple, you can apply a free host and Cpanel and upload your page to host. better order a domain and let it direct to your host'IP. Then all are ok.

you could go the easy route and use one of those drag and drop sites.. such as square space.. makes it easy but costs more and has more limitations.

I use Wordpress exclusively in all my projects. It's such a great platform to build sites on.

If you want something built from scratch in PHP then you will be looking into paying a substantial amount of money for something that can be done just as easily with Wordpress.

Just my two cents. Hope it has helped.

Actually it really depends on the type of site and business you are going to run, if you are setting up a typical Marketers authority or affiliate site then yes you should use WordPress.

I truly believe that Wordpress can be utilised in any project if you have the right designer/developer on board. It really is that flexible!

This all depends on what kind of site you are building?

If we have no other info than you are building a site then no one here can actually give you some solid advice.

Wordpress is mainly used for blogs so if you require something more flexible and dynamic then wordpress would not be the right option. Like I said it all depends on what you are doing.

You are also looking for DESIGN and DEVELOPMENT of your new site make sure you learn the difference between the two. Designers will create the look of your site using graphics design software and the development part is done by a coder/developer who makes the site into a working website.

Its usually best to have the two hired separately unless dealing with a company that has their team all in one location.

No one can help you here until you say what it is you are doing though?

    Definitely WordPress all the way.

Easy to use, cost effective, easy to customize, a bunch of videos on YouTube to learn tips and tricks and some awesome plugins to make some tasks quicker, easier or better.

    Good Luck rsolanki

Wordpress is easier to get started with, however PHP is remarkably easy to get to grips with and there are thousands if PHP scripts to help you with basic tasks. In use PHP. all the best!

This is often a trade-off between customizability and increased costs. Coding your own site from scratch, you can do essentially anything you want ... both right now and later down the road, but that costs more as well.

Wordpress is cheaper to setup, but there are limitations on what you can do exactly (there isn't a Wordpress plug-in for everything under the sun).

If you don't know that you need a custom site for some specific reason, then just go with Wordpress.

You said you are new to IM. So, it'd have to be wordpress because its easy to figure out stuff, it's rock solid and there are thousands of users there...it's simply incredible. Go for Wordpress. Keep updating (or auto update) and you won't have reliability issues.

To be honest Rob, WordPress is the way to go. I had no clue on building web until I was introduced to WordPress. Instead of spending money I thought it would be more beneficial if I taught myself which i agree can be daunting but not impossible.

Is it to save you time or is it because you don't know what to do?

Good luck with your new venture.

It would be nice if you had both skills, but for starting out, easily the answer is Wordpress. I have a Wordpress blog and it's amazing. It's just so simple, but it gets the job done. Coordinate with your web designer and tell him/her what you're looking for in your site. And in the long term, whenever your Wordpress site needs to be updated, they will let you know when you log in. It's really cool.

Yeah I would def just create a wordpress site (hosting is around $10pm) and pick a nice theme that suits your purpose. Or if it is just for sales pages, go with Optimizepress or WP Profits as a simple page builder. And there is cheap plugins that do just about everything you will ever need.
