wordpress domain question

Hi,

Can you tell me how to set up my domain with Wordpress so that it doesn't read domain.wordpress.com ? Is there a way of linking the blog to an existing domain so that it reads mydomain.com/blog? I'm sure I've seen that on some blogs.

Cheers

The proper (best) way to do that is to have your own web hosting and host Wordpress.org (not the free .com version) on your own domain name. That way you own the site, it is your own domain name (yoursite.com or yoursite.com/blog), and you can use it for marketing purposes (not allowed at Wordpress.com).

If you just want to "Mask" the domain.wordpress.com identity, you can make your domain name so that an address bar shows yourdomain.com even though the hidden actual site is at the domain.wordpress.com. You can go into your Domain Register (Godaddy/Namecheap) and set that up in your account management section.

Great, thanks Greg - the top option is for me. I'm going through the Wordpress blurb and trying to sign up for their premium features - I'm guessing that's what I have to do but can't figure out how. If you get five mins can you tell me next step? If busy no probs, I'm sure I'll get there. :-)

I am back online now if you still need help. It looks as if Katie may have already helped you though. Just PM me if you need me faster.

For the top option, you don't need to sign up for any features at the Wordpress site. Depending on who your web host is, you just log in and click the install Wordpress button, or with some hosts you will need to manually upload the WP files. There is a little more work involved to upload the theme you want to use and the plugins to make your site do what you want it to do, but that is the basics.

Let us know if you need more detailed info.
